Canonico wrote:Strange co-incidence, mbc, because this afternoon the Vatican Information Service announced that a new Bishop of Mandaville (Jamaica) has been appointed; an American Jesuit. Guess what his name is? GORDON BENNETT SJ

I'd heard that there were plans to have a "pick 'n' mix" opening rite, using the Gloria as one option, but this is not what is proposed in the Ordo Missae translation that ICEL recently sent to the Bishops (according to The Tablet's published text). It was proposed for the English version of the 2n...

We do those two plus: Glory to God in the Highest (John Bell) Gloria from Mass for John Carroll (Mi...

I've since purchased the updates to version 2 and version 3 direct from Sibelius UK, there's never been a problem. Yes, I should have mentioned, I too have had no problem with getting upgrades from Sibelius. It's getting the initial discounted version which may not be straightforward for UK church ...

Re: Education pricing

UK churches can buy software at educational rates, plus the VAT. ... Sibelius 3 (Mac or Windows) is £253 + VAT. Are you sure, Musicus? According to the Sibelius web-site the educational price is available to schools/colleges/students, but no mention of churches or charities. When I bought Sibelius...

Then there was the head of composition at college who said: "You just write tunes..." That was what my A-level music teacher said to me, and I suppose I took it as a discouragement, whether or not that's how it was meant. Actually what he said was 'you should write songs for the Eurovision Song Con...

quite another presenting them to a group of folk who know what they're doing. Well quite, yes, I'm sure it would be... But you're safe enough at the composers group. It's a very sympathetic audience - much more so than unleashing a piece on a hostile and demanding public. (A much smaller audience t...

So, do I have my break ... or do I wear myself out ... ? Take that break. Not being able to turn my back on things because someone else is bound to do something half-baked in my absence is a condition I find I have to face up to repeatedly in myself. It's probably true that things will fall apart i...
