Re: Extraordinary Form
More insidious than that, Contra - it reflects the very British presumption (and very Catholic one - so very very British-Catholic) that any conception which involves - er - not being a virgin is intrinsically evil and very definitely Maculate.

Not yours, Oops - the "definition" of "December 8 a Holy day . . . .etc"

Re: Extraordinary Form
I thought I'd read up on the info proffered by Oops - but Francis recently announced a special Holy Year of Mercy, in which any priest can grant women forgiveness for abortion, considered a grave sin by the church. The observation begins December 8, a holy day honoring [sic] belief in the Virgin Mar...

Not a lot of people can do that - and keep it up right through! Just think - if they perpetuate that style for a few centuries it may develop into the glories of polyphony!

Re: Gloria
Thanks for the reference, mcb. Before getting dogmatic about this back at base, I'd like to know what happens on days when Ritual Masses are not allowed! - can anyone help? (I do sometimes wish the writers of rubrics had the intellectual rigour of the writers of computer programs. It's a simple deci...

Can you give "chapter and verse" for that, SC - confirmations coming up and I've been asked to check the congregation's leaflet for accuracy.

Re: Help! - the Missal
Bingo! SC - thanks for trying, Alan29 but I suspected the link might be to the US version (.com address, and some of the pen names used), but never got as far as seeing it -the download never completed. I'm actually still waiting for it! - using a borrowed laptop at the moment. I see it's a Dropbox ...

Help! - the Missal
Some time ago I had a link to the pdf of the new Missal - which fortunately I downloaded for ease of access. Now i want to give the link to someone else, but I cant find it. I know it's somewhere obvious but . . . I seem to recall that at the time it was mentioned here, but searching this forum for ...

Christmas Carols in Advent - the dilemma
I'm caught in the cross fire beteween a pp who wants a carol service in Advent to be strictly a service of Advent carols and parishoners who want the only opportunity they have to sing carols of any sort to be an opportunity to sing their old favoutites - the geuinely "nativity" ones - and...

Re: The Holy Year of Mercy - are we doing anything?
Indeed, Q: I will be submitting an account of the meeting (including this discussion) for inclusion in the next issue of Music and Liturgy (early 2016). That'll be well into the "year", Alan - any chance of a preview of the relvant part of the account on the forum here? We will probably m...

I’m surprised no-one has quoted the following to refute the initial claim of this thread: Exactly, Peter - I was just about to get grumpy yet again - the old Software Support Desk mantra leapt to mind! ( "When all else fails, RT*M" ) Why should we be burdened with the opinion of some well...

The Holy Year of Mercy - are we doing anything?
The information for the Composers' Forum meeting in London on another page of this site alerted me to the coming of the Holy Year of Mercy of which I was blissfully unaware - although "blissfully" is hardly the word - indeed I am quite cross to have been so completely ouit of touch. Still ...
