Tempting! But any hint of triumphalism (or chicken counting) would be inappropriate :D

Re: Farewell Mass

Presuming that your time with this parish priest has been a positive one my own setting of st augustine's song of farewell to his gathered monks may be of interest. It has the most tear-jerkingly trite melody and harmonization to a fine text and induces floods of tears if exposed for too long. Woul...

Re: Realising Bishop Alan's hope

Careful, people: there are a lot of confident statements about copyright here - and a similar number of equally confident rebuttals. It is all getting very confusing. I am going to suggest to the SSG Trustees that it would be an act of service on their part if they were to commission an authoritativ...

Re: Psalm for the feast of the Transfiguration

You might consider the attached, composed just this year by Colin Brumby, the Australian composer. You are free to copy and use it as you will - no copyright issues. It's not especially 'rousing' but has a response which would be easy for the congregation to sing. PSALM 96 (Transfiguration of the L...

Re: Will Francis restore our liturgy?

Inevitably, another point of view: http://www.praytellblog.com/index.php/2 ... e-worship/

Here's the link that has prompted this: http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/ ... nted-soon/

It's all speculation, of course. Today - the Solemnity of SS Peter and Paul - had been thought a good day to make the announcement.

Re: Farewell Mass

Update from the left-hand-not-knowing-what-the-right-hand-is-doing department: when I presented my recommendations today I was told that the retiring PP had, in fact, been in touch (at last) and made his wishes known!

Why do we bother?

Re: Farewell Mass

Thanks, everyone. We (the music team) have settled on the Mass 'For Priests' in the Missal's Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Occasions, and made a selection from the wide choice of readings prescribed for it. Now we can choose suitable music. This is not our preferred way of working, but we...

Farewell Mass

Our music team has been asked to plan a 'farewell Mass' on a weekday evening for a departing parish priest (who will preside). Does anyone have any experience or any suggestions to offer. We asked about readings and so forth but nothing has been decided, so we got the distinct impression that it's u...

Desirable? yes - in many ways; but impractical, certainly.

Re: Sede Vacante and the Liturgy

I think the current translation is beautiful. Hmm. But is it English? When has "merit to ..." EVER been English? Details aside, the new "translation" certainly isn't vernacular - capable of being understood by ordinary people - as Sacrosanctum Concilium intended. I know quite a ...

Re: Sede Vacante and the Liturgy

To which vacant episcopal (or papal) seats are you referring? Habemus papam, so it's not that (unless one is a sedevacantist). Then again, we are a goodly number of bishops short of a conference, both in England and Wales, as well as elsewhere...

Thanks, Nick. I also recall a fascinating episode of Time Team, based at Newhall School.
