Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
I would happily play but am furloughed until singing is allowed - or the furlough scheme ends - when I would be redundant.

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Hmm. All this listening is in danger of becoming the "New Normal" (I HATE the term with a vengeance!) Why don't we just give up??!

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Hmmm - I thought I'd PM'd Nick but no sign of the message! It wasn't really important! Just to say that I'm probably going to be made redundant by the diocese when the furlough scheme ends - hence my despondency at the way things have turned out.

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Nick, I am speaking of my own personal situation. My time in church music has come to a premature end. I am sure singing will return at some stage.

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Of course I'm not saying the government imposed the virus on us - I'm just sick of the fact a lifetime's work in church music has been brought effectively to an end by this no singing business.

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Quite honestly, I have no interest in a "recovery" from something that has been imposed by an incompetent government - I'm finished with the whole blinking business.

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
My choir won't be restarting anytime soon as l as DOM am furloughed until October.
I can't help feeling that some people will view the return of choirs singing alone as 'elitist' and that getting the assembly singing again eventually may be difficult!

Re: Pre-recorded music in liturgy
The problem with your current PP's approach is that it makes it much harder for those priests who will not allow recorded music. I recall a liturgist friend of mine who, with great care, would attempt to persuade people not to have recorded music only to get the response "it was allowed for th...

Re: Pre-recorded music in liturgy
Yes - I have become a CD operator at almost every funeral at my place in the last few years. Previous PP would not allow recorded music under any circumstances, and upset a lot of people. Present PP is well aware of this, and bends over backwards to keep people happy!

Re: Redundancy after furlough
That's where the form is from - I'm on diocesan payroll for tax and safeguarding purposes (They reclaim my salary from parish)

Re: Redundancy after furlough
Not clear. I don't think PP knows either. He seems to think I'll be back playing next month!

Redundancy after furlough
If no singing is allowed whenever churches reopen for worship, is there a real danger of paid musicians being made redundant? I am on furlough and my PP has emailed me a form to fill in stating my working hours. There is a box at the bottom saying "Redundant 1/8/20 Yes/No".......

Indeed they did, and mentioned it in the group! The group seems to be fulfilling a need. There has never been any question of it competing with, or apeing this group!
