Last night, perfectly bog-standard Saturday evening Mass in a small market town in the Midlands - the PP paused, gathered us all together with a look round, and began: 'We come to you, Father...' Oh, good, I thought, Reginald will be pleased! The parish I used to be in used 1, 2 and 3 on a rota; occ...

Just wondering, oops... what's the thinking behind not having Mass? I mean, there should be a bishop and probably at least one priest in the building; but there may be reasons - has anything been said? I'm only asking out of nosiness! :)

To say nothing about the priests who carefully break a large host into two halves, then eat both halves themselves... See GIRM 321: (sorry, I still haven't cracked nicely boxed quotes yet) The meaning of the sign demands that the material used for the Eucharistic Celebration truly have the appearanc...

liturgy for people with learning disabilities

Someone from our diocesan CCRS course has asked if I know of any liturgical provision for children/adults with learning disabilities. I don't, but does anyone on the Forum?

Hi, oops, (when I began this reply I thought it would be very uncomplicated but it's become rather long. Please bear with me...) Most of the time I'd guess, you and I are looking ahead at readings etc in either a 'Sunday Missal' which gives entry and Communion antiphons, readings, psalms and some of...

I'm about 160 miles from my various resources right now, but off the top of my head I'd suggest something which complements/deepens the action of lighting the candles rather than singing about light. For these aren't candles-as-symbol-of-Christ, but a way to wind us towards the Nativity and remind u...

Psalm 12th Sunday, year A

At the risk of an accident in the Salford area (see mcb, Glory to God topic, page 4), I must say that the setting of yesterday's psalm by Martin Barry (published by Decani Music) was wonderful! Even our organist, who is plainchant to her roots, made appreciative noises...

Ah, like the Glory to God at Hope, several years ago. Whatever happened to that?

Me, I'll be there. What am I expecting? Good company, being offered things to think about, some full-hearted singing, affirmation, and how to build a webisite.

This is your chance!!

Dear all, I'm putting together a shortish module on presiding for some of our students - principally for their diaconal year, but I'll be taking the opportunity to look ahead at their liturgical celebration as priests too. I have the documentation and my own ideas and draft outline, of course, but I...

I'm in a parish where major world events go completely un-noticed (eg September 11 barely got a mention in the intercessions, because it happened after they'd been set in stone) and so felt fairly strongly that we shouldn't carry on as though nothing had happened. But, Sunday within the octave of Ea...

Merseysider, love, at least now you can do what you do do without having that hideous worry in the back of your head about what to go without so you can pay the next gas bill. People who have a surplus in the bank at the end of the month might not appreciate what it's like to go month after month do...

Both psalms are also in the Wild Goose collection Psalms of patience, protest and praise; as metrical settings, so not exact words in psalter, but either would provide contrast to antiphon/chant.

cantors

Thanks, sid, they're really interesting and have given me stuff to think about. The last one - from Scotland - would make a good piece for M&L (you only have to ask the authors) - or how about a short series for cantors?
