Re: Liturgical Tourism
Well of course I can't but in this case the person concerned was clearly so and no problem with it either! All are welcome!

Re: Liturgical Tourism
I often talk about Mass in Lyttleton New. Zealand in a lovely little church (later badly damaged by the earthquake) where the priest often asks the congregation for their opinions after the homily. He did not do it that Sunday as he had to go on to another Mass centre but he did bless various people...

Sequences
Pentecost has a wonderful sequence especially the plainchant which is not that difficult to sing and lies low in the range. We commented at Mdina cathedral (see Liturgical tourism post) how high the Missa de angelis setting lay in the voice. I also love Victimae paschali but did not get to sing or p...

Re: Liturgical Tourism
Before Mass choir and organ rehearsed Panis and Hymn for year of mercy. Loud organ music well played. Pentecost started with Come Holy Ghost creator come. Missa de angelis. Sequence said by all. Psalm led by cantor behind altar in choir area and Alleluia. Excellent homily from the Archbishop but no ...

Re: It's Friday! Singing out of Tune
The film is good if a little sentimental. The French Madeleine was much better!

Re: Another type of mass
This is a minefield! You could have a look at Mission praise and New A and M but you need to check texts. A good example is "let us break bread together on our knees" a bit old hat now but liturgical nonsense! Musically many of these worship songs are rubbish so why sing them?

Re: How great thou art
ACTA caused that confusion! Any way an excellent stimulating speaker and I am enjoying Amoris laetitiae very much.

Re: Percussion
Yes I accept I am not a "prototypical" whatever that is! Actually there were quite a few elderly people there who commented on the same thing -too loud! Musicians need to remember that hearing aids can pick up too much and I include organists in that! I am certainly happy with added colour...

Oops
Visiting priest this morning announced he does not sing Sursum corda. No problem! I played the gradual hymn (in E flat) and was just going to start Celtic Alleluia in A when I heard "The Lord be with you" so no Alleluia. No apology either! A congreation member said how lovely the anthem at...

Re: Percussion
How interesting - where is that quote from please? I thought we greeted the Gospel with the Acclamation and the homily should follow naturally. AN instrumental to cover the procession with the Book makes more sense.

Music days
Final rant of the morning! It is sad that the Year of Mercy day at Hammersmith was cancelled. This is happening everywhere. Saturdays are now a day to support family activities and people can't even spare a morning for a session. Grandparents have to look after children. Many families are split so a...

How great thou art
Went to a fascinating ACTA day with Fr Gerry Hughes SJ (God of surprises). At one point we had an intense debate about the Atonement and people were agreeing that God did NOT send his Son to die for our sins in some sort of angry retribution. The day ended with a hymn and we all sang verse 3 "G...
