Vigil Mass at Christmas

Just read the planner and see no recommendations for the Vigil Mass on Saturday 24th. In our parish this is always the big Christmas Mass with lots of children and families present. Am I missing something here............ Midnight Mass has poor attendance and Christmas morning is very very thinly at...

Christmas Carols

Just got my L. Planner, hooray, But alas, at Christmas I know that in our parish we will sing 1 Come Come Come to the Manger 2 Away in a Manger 3 Silent Night 4 O Come ALL Ye Faithful not just for the evening Mass but at every service. I am just a bit bored. The three of us who practise together wee...

Kyrie

At the bottom of the photocopy which I was given, obviously for personal practice and not for performance............ it says it is traditional Russian Orthodox liturgy or words to that effect so I would guess it is OK to spread it around? My friend Mo says it would be good to enter into church sing...

kyrie

Can't spell it but we went on a workshop in Huddersfield and John Bell taught us all this wonderfull Kyrie which was simple and in three parts. I would love to do it at Christmas but don't know if I dare ..... as somewhere I just read you could leave this out on Christmas to highlight the Gloria.......

learning difficulties

hi Faith and Light Group in Leeds have regular services and care homes too. Most important thing is probably that Mass is shared and not isolated for people with Disabilities, not dumbed down but lively. Don't do like the funeral I played for where they forgot to get a signer for the deaf community....

commissioning of musical ministery...

Hello all Now then, I agree with what is said above especially as regards the participation and support which musicians receive(or don't).... and I wonder if sometimes people in my parish think I am paid for playing the organ or something. Because just before PP found out I could play the beast, we ...

christmas baptism?

Hello all

What do you think of a plan to baptise a new baby during the Christmas Vigil Mass?

Is this a good idea? I'm not too sure if this is OK and can imagine a number of problems with putting the service and Liturgy together and meeting the families needs too.

commisioning

On no I just lost my post! Good thing cos it was very waffly. Apologies for some tangling of the thread. I think that there are some very good reasons why some musicians.organists/directors/liturgists and choirs should be formally and commonly commissioned which are around having a contract and prom...

thread

Hi my thank you would be for the congregation to join in the singing with a bit of wellie instead of pretending to sing with the book in front of them a la Catholic. There is nothing lifts me as much as hearing everyone singing with heart. Also I then know which verse I am on. I sometimes wonder if ...

Hello Well we had two in the end! All due to a mix up and a muddle but just as well as we did not get the water boiled for the Fair Trade tea the first time round. We did sing "Oh Lord all the World Belongs to You" with a bit of wellie which was good. So then we ran again this last Sunday with some ...

diocesan stuff

Hi Organist I used to go to school opposite Southwark Cathedral! Over the road from the old Bedlam Hospital! My pal just said she went to Mass at Southwark and was surprised that they did not sing 'owt. In our diocese we have a named liturgy person. In the Directory. I have been to hear his Mass. Ve...

Great Amen

We have been banging on with the Celtic Amen since the beginning of summer. As yet I have never got to do it on the organ as I do not dare to interrupt ....... We just get to do it when we do the guitars as this gives me more chance to lead what is sung. And I usually do it all very badly. Luckily n...

Thankyou Pirate For de mystifying some of the Holy books! I look at the SSG Liturgy Planner. and also the Diocesan Directory which a little while ago I thought was how you could find out in advance what to play!! Hmm. So, no wonder Father gets himself in such a muddle then. Fancy all that being ther...

Harvest Festival?

Still getting it wrong here! What part, if any, of the Mass would "Lord you have come to the Lakeside" be suitable for? The parish primary school is singing this, and ever anxious to try and please everyone, I tried to do it at today's children's Mass and someone complained. (Well they complained th...
