Re: Virtual Choir Software - MixPad

I have now thoroughly road-tested MixPad. While it has some features that are more easily accessed, in general I prefer the interface of Audacity. which makes routine tasks such as aligning tracks much easier and much more precise. Of course, everyone will have different tastes. My decision was made...

Re: One License and Church Support Group

Following my conversations not only with OneLicense but licence holders and diocesan personnel in the UK, I am now in a position to offer a digest which I will will prove useful. 1. British Isles statistics Total number of UK reproduction licences = approx. 1400 Total number of UK streaming licences...

Re: One License and Church Support Group

Just an update to say that I have a Zoom call with the OneLicense people scheduled for this Friday and hope to get answers to a number of questions then. In the meantime, it seems clear at present that our new "local" contact will be someone at CSG in Ireland. The plan appears to be that t...

Don't know the answer to that one, as I have only used Audacity to edit and mix existing audio files and tracks.

Re: One License and Church Support Group

What this means is that the c. 80,000 songs administered by OneLicense are now available to those who stream via churchservices.tv — and not before time! For years, this Irish company has been illegally streaming copyright music without making returns and without paying a penny to publishers or comp...

Re: Virtual Choir Software - MixPad

What is the difference between MixPad and Audacity? Does MixPad do something more than Audacity? Is it more user-friendly? I've been using the latter for many years. Also, my experience of NCH products has been mixed. They often start off as free but after the free trial period you then have to pay ...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups

The government has today issued revised guidelines. Instead of now limiting singers to a group of six, the guidance says this: Singing, chanting and the use of musical instruments What the leader(s) and performers can and cannot do: [*] For performance during worship (and rehearsals), both indoors a...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups

In a thread elsewhere, RSCM people are claiming that the wording of the latest guidance is wrong and that it actually means you can have multiple groups of six (e.g. Decani and Cantoris) if properly spaced. One claims to have been having conversations with grovernment contacts and that revised guida...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups

I'd agree with everything John said. One caveat about humming, even when wearing a mask. Fairly early on (March/April) they did studies on humming as an alternative to singing and found that just as much was produced in the way of aerosol, even when the hummer was masked. Every week or two, someone ...

Westminster Cathedral music administrator resigns

A damning indictment, including relevations about the behaviour of the headmaster of the choir school, inexcusable treatment of Martin Baker, misleading parents, a toxic atmosphere, and much else. The "strategic review" into music at the Cathedral, announced on January 20. Not a word has b...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups

As the RSCM guidelines indicate, face visors or face shields are pretty useless. Some interesting data here: https://gizmodo.com/how-face-shields-and-valve-masks-fail-to-stop-infectiou-1844916328 Proper masks are what is required for safety, and in more than a few places, singers have learned to sin...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups

The only real prospect of a return to normality is a set of vaccines. It appears that this is less than 12 months away. The vaccine trials are not only making rapid progress, but they are making use of the knowledge of veterinary virologists, who have been dealing with coronaviruses in animals for y...
