Re: I Sing Pop, 'Christian music project'
Often the justification for using banal music in schools is to engage the children in worship music. I suspect that the opposite can happen and many older children switch off. Many of the songs taught in schools date back to the 70s and 80s, or are in that style, and these songs are viewed as old fa...

Re: Come Back Again
Doesn't ring any bells with me but there must be someone out there who recognises it?

Re: Come Back Again
Just a thought, and I know there could be copyright considerations. In the interests of finding the composer is it worth uploading a scan to this forum. You could take it down again once the composer is identified.

Director of Music, St George's Cathedral Southwark
Norman Harper is to retire at the end of the year and St George's are advertising for a new Director of Music. Here is a link to the advert: http://www.stgeorgescathedral.org.uk/music/directorofmusic.html I'm no expert but the remuneration seems very low for the type of musician they seem to want to...

Re: Easter Sunday morning Masses
Paschale Solemnitatis is very clear about this. There is no "pastoral provision": ‘The entire celebration of the Easter Vigil takes place at night. It should not begin before nightfall; it should end before daybreak on Sunday’. This rule is to be taken according to its strictest sense. Re...

Re: Easter Sunday morning Masses
Many parish's vigils are attended mainly by the elderly who don't want to be out late. I suspect that is one reason why they tend to start their Easter celebrations early. I remember when the Vigil started about 10 or 10.30 and the actual Mass didn't start till midnight. Our PP used to send everyone...

Re: Easter Sunday morning Masses
The Easter Triduum and Vigil is the source and summit of our weekly liturgy for every parish family. As a parish family, we may not always agree with things that happen but I try to make sure that I'm there and contributing. I suspect part of Catholicism's problem in England is that people don't ide...

Re: SSG Communications - what the heck is going on?
Southern Comfort has, as always, given a very apt argument that Catholicism has always had a certain amount of dynamism. In fact I would argue that there were significant changes in teaching between the Reformation and Vatican 2. These include the acceptance the the earth revolves around the sun, th...

Re: SSG Communications - what the heck is going on?
Traditionalism isn't only about liturgy, if it were it wouldn't be such a problem. There's a very extensive Wikipedia article on traditionalist Catholicism. It lists many traditionalist groups that are in full Communion with Rome and many who aren't. At it's extreme incarnation, traditional catholic...

Re: The Best Narthex in Christendom
The larger the space and the more cupboards and shelves and noticeboards it has, with an appropriate place for everything, the better it will look. Your welcoming should shoulder the responsibility of making sure everything is tidied up properly at the end of Mass.

The passage mentions a 3 day journey. Methinks Buddhists would be very impressed!blackthorn fairy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2018 2:55 pm This thread started some time ago with Jonah being called to go to Nivea - this morning in my church he was being called to go to Nirvana - not once but several times. Did he get there I wondered?

Clapping at the end of a carol service
A priest, not in my deanery, has issued an instruction that there should be no clapping at the end of a primary school carol service in his church. My informant tells me that this instruction will be ignored completely and that clapping will be even more heartfelt than usual. Whilst the sacredness o...

Re: Remembrance Sunday
We used to sing this at every evening funeral reception; Lord alone knows what non-practicising or non-RC folks made of it. As for the initials - I was told that the piece was written by friends of the organist here in Whitby around the turn of the century, a Mrs Helen Alder and her husband Thomas,...

Re: Remembrance Sunday
Laudate 177 ' Now let your servant go in peace' is an easy hymn setting of the Nunc Dimittis to a fairly well known tune. There's also a Taize chant in Latin or English.
