I heard a few months ago that a 'Directory of texts' (psalm settings, hymns etc.) was being submitted to Rome by various diocesan music & liturgy comittees throughout E & W.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Has there been any progress?
What texts were submitted?
Why the secrecy?

Re: 'Yahweh' in Catholic liturgy
I've always thought that 'Yahweh' was a rather silly name for God.

Romana Guardini's great mistake
'There could be no greater mistake than that of discarding the valuable elements in the spiritual life of the people for the sake of the liturgy...' - Romana Guardini's 'The spirit of the liturgy' (Chapter 1) There is great devotion to the BVM, and the Blessed Sacrament in the RC Church. At my paris...

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.
I suggest that a small amount of plainsong has its uses. It is relatively simple, dignified music which can help to balance a parishes music programme and, were it widely adopted, it would give a little uniformity which would make visitors feel a little more at home. Joking aside
Mea culpa. I had not intended my previous topic 'DT is my friend' to be entirely serious.
However, I think that there could be a serious problem with the image of the SSG, if people who do not know about our work actually
read 'Holy Smoke', and take it at its face value.

Damian Thompson is my friend
Damian has supplied a link to a video clip of a piece of sacred music (The sound of Futurechurch!) Apparently, this piece is 'being circulated as an example of "best liturgical practise"' by the Bishops' conference, and by the SSG. However, I have thoroughly searched both sites, and can fi...

Re: Does your congregation sing?
Most of our congregation will not sing anything but the most "cheesy" offerings of the late 60s and early 70s when many of them were in their 20s and 30s. Anything newer (in any genre) than this is dismissed as "modern rubbish" and anything traditional (even "O bread of Hea...

Re: Amazing Grace
Ah, so Amazing Grace is not OK.... mixed feelings about this as our congregation really sing this with wellie... no wonder the Bishop's helper gave me that hard look when one of our dames launched into it unaccompanied after Communion and the Communion hymn finished too soon... he had to move a few...

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.
It depends on what "policy" one is referring to. I was thinking in terms of the celebration of the Mass. As I understand it, putting it VERY simply, V2 did not say "no more Latin Mass", but rather, in effect," Latin is still the norm but you can say vernacular masses if you...

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.
As for Latin, in the face of the translations we have, or even those which are proposed, the latin is clearer. You will search in vain for "...which the earth has given..." in the latin. If you can't understand a little latin, then learn some as a matter of urgency. It will open up the wi...

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.
I think the question doesn't distinguish sufficiently between what takes place at EF masses, which by nature are going to be pretty much Latin all the way and what takes place at OF masses, where the question of Farrell-or-Farrant may be more real. Now I personally don't much care what happens at E...

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.
Is there a danger of obscuring the Word of God if we sing and pray exclusively in Latin? Surely the policy at V2 was to translate from the original text to the vernacular. NO, and NO Surely Yes, and Yes:- '... since the word of God should be accessible at all times, the Church sees to it that suita...

Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.
There seems to be a great deal of interest in Latin, plainchant, and the EF Mass in the RC blogshpere and elsewhere at the moment. However, does this have anything to do with liturgy? Is there a danger of obscuring the Word of God if we sing and pray exclusively in Latin? Surely the policy at V2 was...

Re:
So how would you feel? Is there a chasm that cannot be bridged between popular piety, which is probably focussing on the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist as the faithful approach to receive Him - so that's what we must sing about - and the Church's recommendation to sing a Psalm of Praise? ...
