Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

SC mentions that the Gathering Mass has been revised - as this was written for Northampton diocese many moons ago and our congregation seem to know it - who has published it and where is it available?

Re: St Gregory to becomes a Feast

Indeed - yes, I rejoice that our patron has been thus elevated. However, I take the point about the Celtic heritage. It's as though it never happened. How about 're-evangelise'? After all, they had it, but lost it after the departure of the Romans and the arrival of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes.

Re: Father's Day

Mothering Sunday (NB not Mother's Day - that is American and secular, ditto the Fete des Mamans in France) is a different case. Mothering Sunday is always the fourth Sunday of Lent and was the traditional day in England when children in service were allowed to go home to their Mother church (and the...

Re: Teaching the new Mass settings (including MacMillan)

Yes, they did spread around 40 years ago - and in so many variations that it's v difficult to know what the correct version is - and I say 'correct' deliberately as many of the writers/composers are still alive and presumably have a viewpoint - it's not like hundreds of years ago when over time copy...

Re: Are we Pentecost or are we First HC?

Further to my earlier post, I have now found out that our FHC Mass is indeed its own event, taking place on two consecutive Saturdays in June at 11.00. We had a lovely Mass/social occasion last night when each child met his/her prayer sponsor. Fortunately the child for whom I am prayer sponsor will ...

Re: Ecumenical Evening Prayer

We follow the order in the book: - a suitable hymn after the (sung) introduction - the psalms of the day sung to a simple plainsong chant (Tone 2) (unacc) - the Magnificat to Anglican chant - with organ (with plainsong antiphon - to Tone 6 - I think) - we say the canticle (but it could be sung like ...

Re: Are we Pentecost or are we First HC?

All this posting makes me v glad I don't have to do FHC (takes place at the other church - tacked onto the infant school hall which can be opened up for more space). It also highlights the difficulty of finding a Sunday free of a major feast at this time of the year since Ascension and Corpus Christ...

Choir and organist (i.e. me) had Low Sunday off. But doesn't always happen like that. Don't know what they did without us. :?:

Yes - I learned yesterday that a friend of mine (C of E) had done just that in her parish. Might be OK for larks but not for owls!

As an observer of the forum for some time I've now taken the plunge and signed up. Oops and mancunian you have my deepest sympathy - been there, had that done to me and earned the tee shirt. But have courage - God moves in a mysterious way - I'm still here and AN Other is not.
