Triduum Countdown

To all, Hope everything goes well over the next three days. We've all put in an awful lot of work over the last couple of weeks – time to relax and enjoy (says he who will be a gibbering wreck from 7pm this evening!). From today to Sunday morning we'll sing 50 pieces of music – some people will ...

Daft as it may sound, all depends on the number of feet. My mum's parish is having problems finding 12 volunteers so they're looking at six – seems better than nine or 10 – if you see what I mean.

Re: Washing of Feet

"My soul is sad....will you not watch one hour with me" Couldn't you keep 'em all happy and have this as the final piece of music – a prelude into the "Watching". Fade out at the end. Perfect place for something sentimental and good words too... We're using Taizé's "Stay...

What a superb post.
Keep up the good work – in church and in school.
Now, is there any chance that Reginald could be appointed as some sort of music advisor to one or two other cathedrals I can think of?

Have just had an email from an old school friend, bringing me up to date with her children and telling me "they love 'Moses I Know You're the Man' just as much as we did."

Did we really?

Oh, the shame!

When I read the calm, balanced postings of TT and Contrabordun, I so regret my hot-headed input. But the pro-am thing is not a valid argument. People like Prof Bill Tamblyn do not become amateurs by opting to work in parish situations, by choosing to meet people where they are at and growing with th...

if composers turn out music that would simply not be acceptable at school, let alone the Royal Academy of Music. I so remember being refused a place on the composition course at music college. Reason? I write tunes. The guy in the year above me (who gained a First) produced a piece in which the per...

I'm simply highlighting the standards of much music composed for the church since 60's, We would all agree that been much dross. and I think my post makes that clear enough. No it doesn't – it implies that Inwod [sic], Farrell, Walker and Jones are incapable composers. look at real composers that...

....people that could never have made an honest living composing for any other institution have deluded the church into singing their weak and disposable music. ...Dean, Inwod, Foster, Jones, Haugen, Walker...I can't see these guys getting an A level let alone degree level with this quality of musi...

Are we any good at Easter?

This will be my third Easter in my present parish. Two years ago I was surprised to discover that the parish knew very few Easter hymns. I was working on psalms for the Vigil, descants and brass parts for the acclamations etc and assumed that, as it was my first year, I could just pull some of the g...

West Gallery Music in Chester

Any other early music buffs on here? The North West Early Music forum is holding a workshop at Christleton, Near Chester on Saturday May 6th – it's a day of 18th century west gallery music but all by north west composers – I hadn't realised there were any – always associated west gallery with ...

I've just finished my first Latin Mass (well, Eucharistic Acclamations) and it's all in English. The Latin is in the left hand – it's a tango!

...so that those who didn't study Latin can have some comprehension of what they are singing Which kinda makes me wonder about the point of singing in Latin in the first place. (Quickly dons crash helmet!) Yes, I know it's the official language of the Church and all that but it's also the official ...

Papal liturgies under review

Pope Benedict XVI is reviewing plans for papal liturgical celebrations, the Vatican's top liturgist has disclosed. Archbishop Piero Marini, the master of ceremonies for papal liturgies, spoke to the Italian internet site on March 20, during a visist to Milan for the publication of his book, Liturgy...
