Re: Chant Antiphons for Eastertide
Yes - we have been doing the entrance and communion antiphons for some time now, just to simple chant (Tone 2). This looks like an interesting challenge for a special ocasion - I can't wait to try them out!

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
Re Gregorian chant and Latin - the two are not inseparable. There is some very good English Sarum chant in the New English Hymnal. I know because I use it.

Re: The wickedness of face cream
I meant to add too, JW, that the flowers have not taken over from Our Lord - we started with full sung Mass before setting off on the prcession and finished with Benedition back in the cathedral. I don't usually go in for this sort of thing, but ended up enjoying it in spite of myself. And people we...

Re: The wickedness of face cream
Yes JW - the Year of Faith was commemorated in the disply - together with a significant anniversary of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (I think) some of whose representatives were there in full gear. This was the cross - the Maltese Cross - depicted in the display (which was next to the bench wher...

Re: The wickedness of face cream
The Carpet of Fowers is for Corpus Christi (real CC on Thursday!) and has nothing to do with flowers of the rarest and blossoms of May etc. After Mass in the cathedral, a long procession winds its way down the street, through the gate into the castle, round the grounds (pausing for a brief Benedicti...

Re: Tenebrae
Thanks to all who have offered help! Thank you Q - I have a Liber at home and now I know what I am looking for, I will explore it. I would expect to sing the psalms in English, but I can find translations. Thank you also londonchurchman for your link - that is useful extra info. BTW, I was at St Bar...

Tenebrae
During Holy Week I attended Tenebrae for the first time. I've always known about Tenebrae, but never had the opportunity before to experience it. We could do that next year, I thought afterwards, and mentioned it to PP and a few others, who were of a similar opinion. So - I need to know: Are the psa...

Re: "Ah-men" or "Ay-men" ("Ay" as in "day" etc)
Definitely 'Ah-men'. The only time I heard 'Ay-men' as a child was in American films. Then I became a Catholic and heard it in England, to my surprise (but not often). However, I haven't heard it for ages. Perhaps it was a generational thing? Pre-war?

I too have only ever experienced (1) - gradual unveiling - in Wellinborough, in all those years, whether old rite or 'new'. Can't comment on elsewhere.

Re: The Trouble with Communion Processionals and beyond…
At my place, choir go up for Communion after servers (organ silent unless a lot of servers in which case brief improvisation); then choir anthem/motet (could be accompanied eg Elgar Ave Verum, could be plainsong unaccompanied either Latin or English, could be Taize, could be unacc hymn - all suitabl...
