Re: High esteem for the pipe organ?

4 wot it's worth: here's my 5c. A few years ago, I asked people to say exactly what they thought about the music at Sunday Mass, and invited criticism. People have been more that generous in supplying this, but it has been a useful excercise. After Holy Week last year, I was approached by a parishio...

Re: Malurgy

I have been asked to put on hymns to Our Lady during May and October. I will accompany these items if people want them. (The parish priest is very flexible about what we sing). However, I have no doubt that I will be asked to accompany 'As I kneel before you' at communion. The idea of installing alt...

Re: Comparison of Catholic Hymnals / one-page

Is it true that GIA Worship IV:

'[does not include] dignified, truly congregational Mass settings'?

Re: Simple English Propers

We sang Bp. Dudley Smith's 'Safe in the shadow' to the hymn tune by Norman Warren. This has a tenous link with the introit (protect me under the shdow of your wings). However, it is a scripture paraphrase (Ps. 90 / 91), and people really sing their hearts out with this setting which has been used fo...

Re: Boosey and Hawkes

I placed an order for this last year, and nothing has happened.

Could Boosey maybe get round this by passing it on to another publisher to do an offprint?

Re: A year on, what are we singing?

We sing Marty Haugen's 'Creation' Mass (revised) as a default setting.

More recently ,we have been singing Mike Stanley's 'St. Luke's' Mass, and
we are learning Dan Dchutte's 'Christ the Savior' Mass.

During Advent we shall probably sing James MacMillan's 'St. Anne's' setting.

Re: Malurgy

(although I must confess that I'm not sure what exactly it's about) I make the same confession and wonder how John Quinn copes with those few churches that have retained a Rood Screen. I have no problem with retained rood screens. SC and PJ -- I absolve you from your sin of confessing that you do n...

Malurgy

This is a new term I have invented -- the equivalent of Malware. I suppose this has always been with us, but it seems to have made a huge comeback in recent years with the instillation of: -- Unhelpful translation policies and translations -- altar rails -- tabernacles on the main altar -- truly awf...

Re: Just in case...

I've heard that a 'just in Casey' is a euphamism in Ireland.

But I can't remember what for, or what bishop of yesteryear it referred to.

Can anyone help me out on this?

Re: Singing the Gospel accl.

I guess you mean while the Alleluia after the verse is sung. If so, I would say yes. Surely, the Alleluia-verse-Alleluia is a single unit, and the cantor's role includes leading (or, at least, cueing) the people in their parts of it. To walk away two-thirds of the way through seems rude! Mind you, ...

Singing the Gospel accl.

Does anyone know:

After the Alleluia is sung, and the cantor has sung the versicle, should he/she remain while the Alleluia is repeated?

Re: The new 'corrected' missal

Gwyn, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The second, corrected, restored & literal image is, for many, beautiful, ineffable, prevenient and consubstantial. The many (above) love this sort of thing, along with altar rails, banning communion wine, scripture & women on the altar. However, in...
