One whiff of Abide with me, Crimmond, The Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Art, or The Day Thou Gavest, Lord; at my requiem and I won't be going to it. This'll be doubly so if anyone reads out that dreadful "Footprints" thing, or the one about "I am the wind, the rain, the sunshine blah-de-blah-blah...

Fairly sure that it's in Hymns Old & New, Musicus. The arrangement there I think is for unison singing with the psalm verses suitable for choir/cantor. I've done an satb version for us to use and it's really effective.

Yes Sid, Carlisle is pounded to death. We use the tune Trentham by Robert Jackson for Breathe on me, breath of God, it has a lovely soaring tenor line, begs to be sung gently and if you can't track it down I can send you a copy via e-mail. It's absolutely delicious.

Soldier on.

Lauda Jerusalem at the Procession of Palms

For the past few years we've used Lauda Jerusalem - psalm 147 - (music by Th. Deckers) as a Processional Song for the Solemn Entrance on Palm Sunday. It's simple, lends itself to unaccompanied singing, easily picked up, alto, tenor and bass lines are easily memorised / fabricated !!! I've never seen...

Sidvicius wrote: Interesting idea - would such a repository be secure against music theft? What would the music 'access' format be? Well, mousing around the OCP site I moused across this: m It may be a familiar site to many SSG members, but I wonder whether it's a format we could use? Keep praying!

Our congergation sing well. I threaten them that if they don't sing this week's service music then next week I'll select a load of politically correct, runny, late 20th century rubbish that's devoid of any substance and which cautiously avoids any reference to the holy catholic faith for which our f...

Humankind

I played the organ for the C of E's evensong service last Sunday. They use the word humankind quite a bit in prayers, hymns and dubious scripture translations. Is this a way of saying mankind that's employed by those who do not understand how the English language works?

Thumbing through 'Laudate' I notice that 'God of mercy and compassion' has been gutted and corrupted almost beyond recognition, and 'Sweet Heard of Jesus' is completely missing. On the other hand the dreadful 'Freely freely' is in there, as is 'Colours of Day' and much other 70's style crud. Worryin...
