Re: School Graduation Masses

Well, if organ voluntaries require explanation, I figured that they probably don't happen very often.............. Nope, understand those. Just don't understand the link between organ voluntaries and your belief that "there are so many fine organs languishing neglected in Liverpool churches!&q...

Re: technology and CDs and such.......

Why do the Catholic assembly have to be "invited" to join in? I have never come across "animators" in Anglican or nonconformist churches. In an Anglican church (I've no experience of a nonconformist one) the ritual context in which the assembly is 'allowed' to join in is fairly ...

Re: technology and CDs and such.......

- in my experience the assembly sing along more readily with a group of singers than with a single voice, especially if the cantor is using a microphone. I'm not sure that's my experience, at least, not always. I think the invitation to sing from a cantor who then animates until people get the hang...

Re: technology and CDs and such.......

We are called to sing the Mass. All else, no matter how desirable, is not necessary. Couldn't agree more: organs, choirs etc are optional extras. Rather a sweeping statement to my mind; one or the other or both can, in the right hands, inspire the assembly to fuller participation, not to mention ke...

Well, I understood exactly what our 2.2/3' flute-toned friend meant

 Presumably we now know why there are so many fine organs languishing neglected in Liverpool churches! (And I speak as a born and bread Scouser myself)

Re: School Graduation Masses

Hare is correct, of course, but this might come as news to your colleague's colleagues, Psalm Project . If that is the case, you and she might need some support. Does the school have a chaplain who knows his or her stuff? Is there any help and advice available from the diocese? Who is going to pres...

Re: School Graduation Masses

One would need to know the readings for the mass; will it be the mass of whatever day it is held on, or a Votive Mass - if so, of what?

The mass should mould the celebration - not vice versa.......

Re: Terrors of the Triduum

Priest went to a restaurant and ordered cod. It duly arrived in front of him; he tried it, didn't like the taste, and called the waiter. He asked the waiter "Can you please tell me exactly what this is?" The waiter replied "It's the piece of cod you ordered". Priest replies "...

Re: Teaching the teachers

Now, folks, let's have your suggestions for the Q&As... I once started putting together a set of short 'liturgy facts' for the newsletter, though never wrote many and none went to print. It was prompted the comment of how disgusting it was that there was often a piece of host in the chalice whi...
