Re: Fit for purpose
The 1998 text was the one that was always intended to replace the one which was always intended to be temporary. It was the product of twenty five years work* and was, as I posted previously, accepted unanimously by all the Bishops Conferences in the English-speaking world. Given that that work - a ...

Re: Fit for purpose
I think the current translation is far better than the previous one . Yes, but nobody was planning to keep the previous one: the real question is whether the current one is better or worse than ICEL's 1998 version, the one that was passed by all the English-speaking bishops' conferences, before bei...

Re: Notation software
Yes, I like it too, and it can turn midi files to score (less widely available than sibelius, etc, but quite a lot of cpdl scores have them). What is vastly annoying about it for the sort of stuff that I have to set is that there's no free rhythm setting: every bar has to have a defined time signatu...

Might be your pc or browser - I was able to copy and paste the psalm from this page http://www.universalis.com/mass.htm without difficulty.

Ordering of options in GIRM
Folks, It is confidently asserted in various corners of t'internet that the ordering of options for music at various points in GIRM is significant, in the sense that those options listed first are to be preferred. I've always believed not, but would be interested to see the arguments in both directi...

If you have a mouse with a wheel on its back, you can zoom font sizes by holding Ctrl down and rolling the wheel.

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
I think the article is ambiguous: it seems unclear as to whether it means success in passing through the process or in actual use.
It also implies that a musical judgement is being made, which is, I gather from this board, incorrect.
What on earth is subfusc music?

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
Yes...got a lot of sympathy with the problem, and to be able to say that X is the answer and there's nothing anybody can do about it might well seem like an attractive way through it. I count myself lucky both that the PP chooses the hymns (so I can just smile sweetly, shrug and refer complainants t...

There again, this document bans women singers, pianos and drums Not forgetting 19th century Italian theatre music, anything at all in the vernacular and certain very specific offences in relation to setting the verses of the Tantum Ergo . OTOH, the recommendation that singers should be hidden behin...

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?
All I am arguing in favour of, is a situation where no person or persons is/are able to exercise considerable influence over the music and seriously effect in any direction the experience of those at Mass, Sorry, you're not. You're merely arguing that you should be the one exercising that influence...

Re: Realising Bishop Alan's hope
Don't disagree with that, but of course the copyright holder (eg ICEL etc) have paid the actual translators and covered the travel and accommodation costs, and regardless of whether the particular organisation is for- or not-for-profit, it will have budgeted those costs against copyright revenue.
