Re: Familiar to anyone?

Very familiar - I once left my mobile phone on during Sunday Mass and it rang when I was in the middle of the psalm - the caller was a bishop (though not mine I would like to point out)!

Re: Annual Conference - 13 November 2010

Can't be there - 2 Masses to play for, back to back - but hope it goes well and I look forward to reading about it in the next M&L.

Sunday Worship R4 from Cambridge 7 November

I thought that this was a first class broadcast, very musical and uplifting generally. Did others catch it?

Re: The trump of God

But, over here, trump = botty burp. Oh dear - do we have to go there? Next time I audaciously bid seven no trumps at Bridge, I will remember that our transatlantic cousins are referring to farts. Now - back to Pauline eschatology (much more important) Seven no trumps, Presbyter? Perhaps you need mo...

Re: The trump of God

See the realisation in Praise the Lord Revised by "Redmund Shaw" (I wonder who he is?) I think we should be told! (I always understood that all the "unknowns" in PLR were, in fact, the editors in disguise. ) Indeed, that thought had crossed my mind too! Perhaps something to do w...

Re: The trump of God

See the realisation in Praise the Lord Revised by "Redmund Shaw" (I wonder who he is?), Could he be related to Martin and Geoffrey Shaw I wonder? I still have my copy of PTL and use this version when I play the hymn. The coda is super, very Handelian! (ps I am still wondering, John, whose...

Oldies but Goldies?

I have been looking though some of my older lirurgical music wondering what might still be useful when the new translations come into play and came across three interesting examples of music which might repy revision. The first is Paul Inwood's Eucharistic Liturgy (1976), a setting of the second Euc...

Re: Newman Mass

Fair enough - so if, as I plan to do, I set the new text to music and teach it to my choir and congregation (but not use it in Mass until Advent 2011) do I need any special permission from anywhere? (I know that Paul Inwood is working on a Mass part of which was used at Whitby but I understand that ...

Re: Newman Mass

Boosey & Hawkes are planning to publish it in Spring 2011 so that it can 'catch the market' for the new translation due, I think (at least in theory), in Advent 2011. Presumably the date of when settings of the new translation may be published will be apply to all publishers not just Boosey and...

Newman Mass

Dafy question probably but when will the score for the Mass of Newman by MacMillan be available? I'd like to start work on it soon after Christmas.

Re: Unsuitable sentiments in hymns

It is the Holy Spirit working through the action of the priest that the transformation is effected so I think that line is sound. I always chuckled though at the idea that Our Lady has to remind Jesus what he has done. "Oh by the way, Jesus my dear, before you get too busy today on your communi...

Re: Papal Visit

I did not see much of the broadcasts, lacking a TV, but I enjoyed what I saw. What I heard , on Radio 4 at 8.10 on Sunday morning is another thing, and I am not sure what good it did to enhance Benedict's visit and some members of my parish were quite unimpressed. That having been said, I wonder if ...

Re: Teach yourself MacMillan

I have dutifully listened and have followed the melody lines in the Magnificat book and am not convinced tat this will be aas congregation-friendly as MacMillon might have hoped. There are some fairly awkward leaps and accidentals which might sit uneasily with the congregation's expectations. I spea...
