Re: Composing for beginners
additional advice on how to connect school-based composition with liturgical composing would be most welcome. Your son would find all the relevant bits in the bishops' Guide for Composers which can be found halfway down this page: m It explains a lot of basics, eg thematic unity of eucharistic accl...

Re: Archbishop of Westminster
And Cardinal Godfrey who was born in Liverpool. (And who suggested that Catholics should feed their pets less during Lent.) And Cardinal Heenan who was trained in Leeds and Liverpool before being sent on the London mission in 1963. Greatest quotes have to be "A church that is half empty is half...

Re: Archbishop of Westminster
why must everything be so London centred? Well the poor *beep* have little of any serious value. The Pennines are northern - as are Patricia Routledge, Thora Hird and Victoria Wood. To say nothing of Bleasdale, Russell, et al. Admittedly, Alan Ayckbourne was born in London but he has since made goo...

Re: James MacMillan and John Bell in Liverpool
Meaning that you need a priest?
Not sure about the comparison given that the most important musical elements of any liturgy do not need require a choir.

Re: James MacMillan and John Bell in Liverpool
Choirs are lovely things to have but you don't "need" one.
Apart from the choral repertoire, what liturgical music can't you perform without them?

Re: Using Midi
Having taken advice, I have removed all my comments about midi from this thread. I realise that those who believe it is a recording or a backing track always will so the debate will become futile.

Re: Terrors of the Triduum

We're producing a CD – but ...

Understand that well enough. One Easter Vigil – in the largest of our three churches – the organist and I had headset walky-talkies and I still couldn't keep her sound and ours together.

Appears not to be your error, Dear Presbyter – sounds as though the organist began the Agnus far too early. You are absolved.
