Re: It's (HE) so disconnected... member lost!

Is she simply going to go to Mass in the parish next door, then, or is she leaving the Church altogether? I work in a parish where I simply can't hear the homily (a combination of PP with slight speech impediment and no loudspeaker anywhere near the organ console) and I get my spiritual nourishment ...

Re: St Theresa's Prayer

Thanks everyone, you're wonderful! I knew the name Talbot was reminiscent, but couldn't think where from. And it is pretty naff, especially when you get further into the tune, but I am reluctant to say that because I don't want to cause offence. We don't need to reproduce anything, I have a (presuma...

St Theresa's Prayer

One of the people responsible for our confirmation candidates came to me on Sunday asking if the girls could sing a setting of St Theresa's Prayer which she'd had sung to her but didn't have the music for. She said she'd play it on a keyboard. Then she sang it to me and I realised that I knew it fro...

Re: Terrors of the Triduum

A good many years ago we had an Irish Priest and a German Deacon, and someone had the bright idea that if we built a fire adjacent to the car park people could chuck a stick on it to represent all the things they'd regretted during the past year. By the time the Easter Vigil was about to begin peopl...

Re: Choir guidelines

Choirs need to sit so that their words can carry and be understood by the congregation. The choir that faces our congregation sideways-on are easily interpretable. The choir that sits facing forward with their backs to many of the people are too often undecipherable. Last night they sang the psalm ...

Re: Mothering Sunday

I'd hesitate to contradict either St Anselm or David Ogden, since my only theological instruction has been through the SSG (apart from Scripture and Sunday School as a child). But I feel that Jesus, being a man, cannot be my mother, and I'm a bit worried that the last phrases of the prayer muddle th...

Re: Summer School 2009

All I can say is, it's a good thing we don't all have the same taste in music. I'm afraid 'When I survey the wondrous cross' St Patrick's gospel choir-style did less than nothing for me. But there's room in God's music library for all sorts, and my booking form went off in the post a couple of days ...

Re: Christmas greetings

Being a bear of very little brain I need an explanation of an RSS feed and a google reading list. Igo all to pieces when I read things like that! Thanks for the good wishes Musicus, which are reciprocated warmly. Anyone any bright ideas on what to play at Monday's funeral? [I have split Gwyn's reply...

Re: Music for weddings

I'm sure we all hope you have a lovely time when the wedding finally arrives, Oops, but beware - the role of Mother in Law is fraught with dangers at every turn. I have three daughters in law (well, two current and one ex) and even though two of them (the current two) are lovely, it's a dodgy furrow...

Re bleeps

I am tempted to go through a list of swear words to see what is beeped! But I won't. On another thread I referred to the f a g end of effort being rewarded. (Vespers - check it out!) Frankly I hadn't considered the rude interpretation that could be put on the "cigarette" word. The softwar...

It does feel like a very Anglican thing to do! Our Cathedral choir simply all wear black, and that seems not to offend anyone (apart from two or three ladies who think it makes them look like they died a few days ago).

Re: Nineteenth Sunday in Ordianry Time - Year <A>

Still off topic, my choir contains a number of Extraordinary Ministers, but they either administer at other Masses or take turns each to administer to the rest of the choir/musicians. It seems to work, and avoids the disturbance of the choir having to move around the church.

Having had a good night's sleep in a bed that I don't have to jump into, I'm delighted to second Doc's thanks. it really was a splendid week. Well done all.
And our 360 mile journey home was totally uneventful, thanks be to God!

Re: Things that happened at First Communions

Do you remember, when you were a child, not being prepared to admit to there being no Santa Claus in case you didn't receive any presents? It seems to me there's something of the same sort of superstition going on here - the parents aren't prepared to admit that they don't believe in God in case God...
