Re: Happy Advent
We had Like a Sea without a Shore, Lift up your heads ye mighty gates, and Hills of the North rejoice for the hymns. Missal chants for the Mass parts. Quiet organ music during communion. I had wanted to do the Andrew Wadsworth Kyrie, but my PP informed me that we can only sing invocations which are ...

Re: The Trouble with Communion Processionals and beyond…
Is this before or after the post-communion prayer, Tom?[/quote] I actually think he has done it both ways, before and after the post-communion prayer. In the first case, he locks the tabernacle, hand out the pyxs, and blesses the ministers. Then there is (rather) brief silence before the prayer. In...

Re: The Trouble with Communion Processionals and beyond…
I'm not sure if my PP uses prescribed words to bless those taking communion to the sick and housebound. Here is what he says: "Receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the sick and housebound. Reassure them of God's love in this most holy sacrament, and may God bless you in your ministry.&quo...

Re: The Trouble with Communion Processionals and beyond…
At the parish where I currently play the organ, around half of the choir are Eucharistic Ministers (including the stronger singers), so this makes life difficult for choir only items during communion. The organist receives communion with the Eucharistic ministers (as the organ is on the Sanctuary). ...

Re: Remembrance Sunday or 33rd of the Year
Just while I remember, when I was at university the parish where I attended Mass used to sing the National Anthem at the end of Mass on Rememberance Sunday. It was a very 'Irish' parish too!

Re: Remembrance Sunday or 33rd of the Year
We gave the 9:30 Mass a Rememberance flavour. No offetory hymn - instead I played the Elgar Nimrod using the full forces of the organ. Hymns included For the healing of the Nations to the Let all Mortal Flesh tune, and Abide with me. Beethoven Funeral March as the organ recessional. I didn't play fo...

Re: " . . . let no man call you "Father" . . "
I always address Priests with 'Father' when in church and tend to use their names in a more social setting. My current PP is very traditional (I always call him "Father" - many people call him "Canon") and on Sunday he lent me a book. When I opened it part of an old Air travel bo...

Re: SSG Annual Conference 12th November - Come and Sing!
Don't suppose there will be a chance for those of us interested in such things to admire t'organ at close range? Not asking to play it, but would interested to hear about the recent work I was recently at the Cathedral as part of a day on Music and the New Translation run by the Leeds Cathedral Mus...

Re: Vespers
Thankyou all for the advice.
My PP is rather keen on Eucharistic adoration (he does exposition with the primary school kids), so that may well be on the cards!
If I have any more queries I shall post some more!
Thanks again,
Tom

As many of you will know, here in the Diocese of Leeds we are only using the Chants from the Missal at all Masses until Advent. In my parish we have decided to help the congregation get used to things by not learning any new hymns until things have settled down and everyone is happy with the new tex...

Re: First Mass in new translation: so how was it?
We started using the new texts at the start of August (the PP was keen to get on with it), and from the first weekend of September we have been singing the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Save us, and Agnus Dei (Missal chants), as well as many of the dialogues between Priest and Congregation. Spoken respons...

Re: James MacMillian's St. Anne's Mass - new words
Personally, I think you only have to watch the clip of MacMillan's Tu Es Petrus from the Papl Mass last year to know he is a composer of profound skill, who wears his Catholicism on his sleeve and has much to offer the church. The St.Anne's Mass was always well recieved and, if I remember correctly,...
