Re: James Macmillan to cease writing congregational music

I wasn't aware of any particular skill he had for composing congregational music. I enjoyed singing the St Anne Mass in its original form but the changes to accommodate the revised texts are disappointingly careless in places. And the additional sections he must have been required to contribute to g...

Re: Gloria at Mass for the War Dead on Remembrance Sunday

We won't be singing the Glory at the 1030 which will be a Mass for all dead through war, however for all other Masses we shall sing the glory. as you indicate the word 'glory' does appear in the psalm response. We may take this to be about resurrection after death although this was surely not intend...

Re: Eulogies

I'm not sure about this. Are you suggesting that a eulogy be given before the coffin is brought in along with the grieving family?

Re: Farewell Mass

Presuming that your time with this parish priest has been a positive one my own setting of st augustine's song of farewell to his gathered monks may be of interest. It has the most tear-jerkingly trite melody and harmonization to a fine text and induces floods of tears if exposed for too long. Would...

Optional Gloria?

I was recently in Plymouth diocese where I was asked whether it was true that the Gloria might be omitted if the opening song is a song of praise. I didn't think this was the case but it would be good to hear some comment on this from the forum as I am away from my resources at the moment.

Sheffield celebrated with a procession from the cathedral to four altars erected at significant locations in the city centre. Several hundreds followed in procession and countless numbers were intriguingly distracted.

Re: Last holy communions

If you have skills and observations to offer, John, do you not think they might better be deployed in direct advice to your neighbouring parish rather than occupying this website with unnecessary and very public lampoons?

Re: New Celtic Liturgy (Walker)

I tend to take this rather briskly myself. It seems natural that way. What does seem unnatural is the setting of the text in verse 3. I feel that it would be better to have ' you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ' in bar 3 of the verse rather than split it awkwardly. I also have problems with tw...

The L'arche Community do foot-washing very frequently as I am told do the Mennonite church.

I didn't realise it was 'optional'.
