Re: International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"

VML noted ... Now we just turn up and sing and hope that those singing in the choir can pick up what the leader has chosen, and it is causing me a bit of concern. Well put VML. That, I think, encapsulates much of the problem, it simply wouldn't be acceptable in any other musical situation. Hare (in ...

International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"

This makes interesting reading. m From the musical aspect there's a lot of truth. One can encounter music at celebrations of Holy Mass that is of such a poor standard and executed so badly that it would not be acceptable in any other situation Too poor even to be considered as muzak to be pumped thr...

Re: Musical Accompaniment to the Divine Office

. . . A useful tip for antiphons is to use parts 1 and 4 of a 4-line tone. That also helps the people to get familiar with the tone, and the tonality!

Excellent strategy S.C.

Re: Musical Accompaniment to the Divine Office

Hello there, DNBA, What a wonderful plan. I hope all goes well. Are you thinking of singing the psalms to simple psalm tones (see attached pdf file)? If so, then I'll be happy to email you accompaniments to a good number of these. Are you thinking of Evening Prayer (Vespers) or Night Prayer (Complin...

Indeed. A dreadful ditty, I've only ever had to endure it once. Deo Graatias.

Re: Christmas on TV and radio

Indeedy-doody. St Chad's was a delight; Credo iii would have topped it off nicely. Never mind though, liturgically and musically stunning.

Re: Pipe Organs and Organists - Dying out?

JW mentioned In response to alan29, I'm going to our local Baptist church tomorrow to give some free advice to someone who's learning to play. Fantastic! The alternative to organ accompanied choral music and hymnody seems to be the poor man's version of Radio 2's Sing Something Simple. We all rushed...

All Saints

Hello brethren and sistren,

What's happening with All Saints this year? Is it to be moved to the nearest Sunday, or is it to be celebrated on November 1st?

Thanks,

Gwyn.

Re: Mass for Canonisation of Mother Teresa

Was that the one piece of music that the EWTN commentators chose not to yabber continually through? I've all but given up viewing EWTN's televised liturgies since almost anything musical is treated as irrelevant and so they take the opportunity to spontaneously translate or commentate without ceasin...

Re: Cardinal Sarah

We're richly blest that we have such choice. There are places in the fallen world where Catholics would love to be able to celebrate Holy Mass without fear of persecution or even death, let alone fretting about which direction the celebrant faces. Let's not worry too much about which way the Celebra...
