Lord, enthroned in heavenly splendour,
O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,
Alleluia! Sing to Jesus,
All my hope on God is founded (to Bryn Myrddyn).

Re: Offertory hymns
Hi Mark. Welcome. You don't have to tie yourself down to hymns and songs that chat about what the celebrant or the people are doing, you can use any hymn or song pertinent to the season. Lots of parishes tie themselves down musically to "the theme of this Sunday's mass". By this I believe ...

Re: Easter Alleluia
At St Chad's, Birmingham the Triple Alleluia was sung thrice; each time a semitone higher than the previous.

Re: You can't please all the people all of the time
That's a very good question H.P.. Somewhere in the mix there needs to be some serious top-down directive; that'd be a start. I'm in South East Wales. At a Saturday evening Vigil Mass a couple of weeks ago the p.p. said that he hadn't prepared a homily so he meandered a little until he eventually rem...

......if you aren't getting any [complaints] then you probably aren't being brave enough.
Or possibly one of the few who follows the directions in the GIRM.

A "I completely disagree" button might also be of use.

God so loved the world
John Stainer's "God so loved the world" (The Crucifixion) is sung lots during Lent and Holy Week, and that's a jolly good thing. Text-wise however, there's nothing that would prevent it being sung at any other time of the liturgical year. There's many a trapped hymn that could do with libe...

Re: Music and Church: Cult and Culture 50 years after Musicam Sacram
It was good at one time, there was the Cardiff Archdiocesan Music Resource Group - a bit fluffy-libby but not at all bad for that. It certainly did what it says on the tin; i.e. armed parish musicians with resources of varying levels in order that liturgies could be revitalised. Its aim wasn't to im...

Keraulophon highlighted . . .
I wonder what they do?
According to the diocesan website

I wonder what they do?

Re: Music and Church: Cult and Culture 50 years after Musicam Sacram
Each diocese has a Liturgy Commission.
I don't think that the Cardiff diocese has one. It certainly needs one. There were at one time a few flagship parishes; otherwise it's meagre fayre. Best bet is Roath's St Martin's (Anglican) church.

Re: Music and Church: Cult and Culture 50 years after Musicam Sacram
Superficiality and banality creeping into our music. Creeping? I think it's fair to say that it has well and truly crept. There are churches where the assembly don't know what a sung celebration of Holy Mass is, a generation has flowered who nothing other than badly chosen ditties. The closest they...

Re: International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"
VML noted ... Now we just turn up and sing and hope that those singing in the choir can pick up what the leader has chosen, and it is causing me a bit of concern. Well put VML. That, I think, encapsulates much of the problem, it simply wouldn't be acceptable in any other musical situation. Hare (in ...

International Declaration on Sacred Music "Cantate Domino"
This makes interesting reading. m From the musical aspect there's a lot of truth. One can encounter music at celebrations of Holy Mass that is of such a poor standard and executed so badly that it would not be acceptable in any other situation Too poor even to be considered as muzak to be pumped thr...
