Re: Liturgical Tourism

The question of Marian hymns at mass is a thorny issue. The main problem I find is that for many Catholics, there are two additional liturgical seasons - viz. "May" and "October"! In our parish, I try to be sensitive to this by being as "topical" as possible. For exampl...

Re: Canon Peter Jones

For the benefit of those of us who were unable to attend, can anyone supply details of the music at the Requiem Mass please?

Re: Saturday evening Masses

I play for all 3 weekend masses in our parish - a flavour of the slightly different content of the 3 can be seen in the weekly music lists here https://www.facebook.com/tenterdencatholicmusic/?ref=hl People seem happy with it.

Parish Music Websites And Facebook Pages

I thought it might be interesting to have a place where people could post links to their parish music/choir websites/facebook pages.

Here's one for starters https://www.facebook.com/tenterdencatholicmusic/?ref=hl

Re: The Preparation of the Gifts is not usually an appropria

At my church we sometimes have a hymn, sometimes a choir motet - and in Advent we do a motet every week. A previous PP insisted on NOT having a hymn as he felt that it "made too much of the Preparation of Gifts" as the Eucharistic Prayer was the focal point.

Holy Year Of Mercy

Are any liturgical resources available yet? I gather that my parish is one of two in the deanery holding an opening mass on the 8th December. The mass will be of The Immaculate Conception, which is easy to plan in itself, but I'm wondering how the "mercy" element should be woven in...........

Re: Music Animator required

I have let this run for a bit as there have been plenty of interesting and useful postings, however we've not have much about Music Animation for a while. Can we please return to the topic now. If you wish to continue with the guitar/organ/keyboard debate please either start a new thread or PM me t...

Re: Music Animator required

Our digi piano is a Kawai. We had "Because the Lord is my shepherd" to the accompaniment of an excellent acoustic guitarist, a bass guitarist, two flutes and me on the harp voice of the piano. All gently amplified through the church PA. Gorgeous. And the people sang - the litmus test of a...

No - that wasn't me. I agree - that is "aspirational" (Hate the term!!) In theory, it should be true, but.........

Re: Music Animator required

The pipe v digital organ debate will always rage. The organ v guitar debate ditto. Personally, I have NOTHING against guitars in church, and have used them on many occasions - and still would were there a guitarist in the parish. The organ is a logical instrument to use in church, as it can fill a l...

Re: Music Animator required

I wonder what it is that makes people think a guitar, keyboard or other instruments are what's required for a family Mass. Presumably they've decided the organ would not be appropriate? Personally, I can't see why the organ might be considered inappropriate for a family Mass. Then again, I would ra...

Re: Music Animator required

Hmm. Not wishing to be negative, but I would like to think that the clentele at this mass got a more varied diet than can be provided by a guitar-playing animator..... What specifically do think will be missing from their diet? Without a job-description (or some inside information) we cannot know i...

Re: Music Animator required

What do they actually do? The only ones I have seen are in France. There they seem to run the Liturgy of the Word from a mike up front, and wave an arm around in a fairly meaningless way while people are trying to ignore them and get on with the singing. Is that it? I'd like to think of myself as p...

Re: Music Animator required

I was not being dismissive of guitars at mass, as a re-reading of my comment should reveal.
