Re: Service of rededication/commission of musicians, etc

Oh it did work (the italic) - I was expecting it to appear on the draft message page. Sorry. I'll know not to panic next time. Back on topic - I remember being asked to draw up a form of words for this some time ago but it was never used. Good idea though. In my church the altar servers have one - s...

Re: Service of rededication/commission of musicians, etc

Regarding When in our music God is glorified (can't get the italic thing to work), does no one know the wonderful Stanford tune 'Engleberg'? A fitting complement to Fred Pratt Green's wonderful words IMHO.

Re: Corpus Christi - the sequence

We do the Easter Day sequence (in the Latin plainsong - lovely!) and the Pentecost one to the hymn Holy Spirit, Lord of light (to 'Veni Sancte Spiritus' by Webb) which goes very well. So I thought - why not the Corpus Christi sequence to a hymn tune? I looked at the first few verses, which were 88 8...

Re: English Proper Chants

Re neums etc - YES YES YES. Blobs and other attempts at transcribing the untranscribable are worse than useless. The proper notation gives you all you need to know. Whoever decided on blobs on five lines in the new Missal deserves to be strung up.

Re: Gloria at Mass for the War Dead on Remembrance Sunday

Well, we did sing the Gloria after all, as it was not PP who was celebrating - so that's all right then.

Re: Eulogies

Where I play, eulogies, 'poems' or whatever are read at the end of the ceremony (whether it's a Requiem Mass or simply a funeral liturgy), just before the coffin is wheeled/carried out.

Re: Chant Antiphons for Eastertide

Yes - we have been doing the entrance and communion antiphons for some time now, just to simple chant (Tone 2). This looks like an interesting challenge for a special ocasion - I can't wait to try them out!

Re: Traditional or Contemporary?

Re Gregorian chant and Latin - the two are not inseparable. There is some very good English Sarum chant in the New English Hymnal. I know because I use it.

Re: The wickedness of face cream

I meant to add too, JW, that the flowers have not taken over from Our Lord - we started with full sung Mass before setting off on the prcession and finished with Benedition back in the cathedral. I don't usually go in for this sort of thing, but ended up enjoying it in spite of myself. And people we...

Re: The wickedness of face cream

Yes JW - the Year of Faith was commemorated in the disply - together with a significant anniversary of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (I think) some of whose representatives were there in full gear. This was the cross - the Maltese Cross - depicted in the display (which was next to the bench wher...

Re: The wickedness of face cream

The Carpet of Fowers is for Corpus Christi (real CC on Thursday!) and has nothing to do with flowers of the rarest and blossoms of May etc. After Mass in the cathedral, a long procession winds its way down the street, through the gate into the castle, round the grounds (pausing for a brief Benedicti...
