How about ' Hail the day that sees him rise' for Ascension, sung to Llanfair?

Re: Sequences
We always do the Easter Sequence - Victimae pascali - beautiful plainsong with such a wide-ranging melody, sung well by the choir. As for the Pentecost Sequence, I'd love to do the plainsong but we sing it all together in the hymn version (Veni Sancte Spiritus - Samuel Webbe, in the translation by E...

Thanks MCB - now I know. An ingenious adaptation. However, I've never understood what is unacceptable about the word 'handicapped'.

Re: Christmas Carols in Advent - the dilemma
Yes, SC's suggestion of a carol service after Christmas is the answer IMHO. After all Q, the Christmas season goes on for quite a bit after the actual day. It's so annoying when people seem to think that it's all over after Boxing Day! GRRRRR!! On the other hand, what about having a little carol ser...

Re: Liturgical Tourism
My holiday experience in Limerick a couple of weeks ago - Sunday Mass at the cathedral, with a full congregation but no organist and no choir (on holiday I was told) and no music whatsoever, so all was over in 35 minutes. Is this a record?

Re: Easter Vigil - when did you start and finish?
We started at 8.00m and fininshed at about 10.15 (end of voluntary). Yes to the LItany, Alan29, and we sing it. We do three readings and psalms (sung), the full Exultet (sung by the Deacon to a simple chant - Tone 2), 5 0r 6 receptions this year and everything sung that can be sung. I wasn't as tire...
