St Maria Goretti visited Canada last month!
Could this be one manifestation of the New Evangelisation? In an age of social networking, is this how modern Catholics LIKE or FRIEND the friends of God?

Re: Invitation to be blessed at communion time
Well, I doubt that Our Lord will be harmed – I suspect God is big enough to cope. Indeed... it was the Lord's will to become vulnerable. When he commanded us to "Do this" he well knew that, despite our best efforts, crumbs would sometimes be scattered and chalices would occasionally spill...

Re: Invitation to be blessed at communion time
What is one seeking to achieve with the invitation to a blessing (as opposed to saying nothing)? I can think of 2 possibilities, both of which are pertinent: a) to restrict Communion to those whom Canon Law permits to receive it... b) to encourage people who do not wish, or who are not able to rece...

Invitation to be blessed at communion time
There exists a widespread practice of offering a form of blessing to those who come forward in the communion procession but cannot themselves receive Holy Communion. There is room for debate on whether this is a proper liturgical practice; our bishops endorse it in pragraph 212 of Celebrating the Ma...

Re: 24 June Birth of John The Baptist
I was not aware that First Holy Communions affected the choice of readings. A First Communion Mass will have a significant focus on children - it will not be due all the concessions of a "Children's Mass" but, being a "Mass for adults in which children participate", paragraph 19...

Hero wanted!
Since the homily is an integral part of the liturgy (as +George reminded his priests at the Cardiff Chrism Mass earlier this month) I presume homily help is on-topic in this forum, so, a quick appeal for help! This weekend, for vocations Sunday, I want to illustrate my homily with one or two example...

Re: St George's Day
Too late for this year, but for future reference: New English Hymnal No. 162: "Lord God of Hosts" by Laurence Housman (d. 1959) to Melita (88 88 88) - see http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/l/g/h/lghwwhan.htm NEH also suggests two general soldier-martyr hymns Martyr of God, whose strength was...

Re: A year on, what are we singing?
Here in Pontypridd, we are currently using all the parts of Schutte's Mass of Christ the Savior (but have only learned one of the three memorial acclamations so far). Before Christmas we used the tones given in the new Missal, except the Gloria which is too elaborate to manage without accompaniment....

Re: Crux Fidelis?
My tentative parish plan is to use selected 6-line verses, sung by the whole choir, to the Tantum Ergo tune. (I made a bid for Picardy instead but choirmaster was not to be persuaded.)
