Re: More from Mgr Wadsworth

If you know others and know yourself, you will not be imperilled in a hundred battles; if you know yourself but do not know others, you win one and lose one; if you do not know others and do not know yourself, you will be imperilled in every single battle. Not as snappy as Non clamor sed amor ..., ...

Re: PANEL decisions

Some mistake, NT? You've linked to a comment by someone called IanW. Here's a link to the original post , discussing Colin Mawby's views. Interesting that, according to CM, Kevin Mayhew will be boycotting the panel process. Presumably that's so that they can maintain their stated intention to keep o...

Found on line here. The blog author (who is citing an article of his own from The Wanderer) doesn't say what his source was.

Re: Christ has died

Here are a couple of interesting quotes, from a website less wholesome than this one: The words “mysterium fidei”, not found in the biblical institution narrative, have been embedded in the formula of consecration of the chalice since at least the 7th century. They were displaced in the 20th. It is ...

Alan Griffiths sacked

Three cheers for Alan Griffiths, and less than three for authority that brings discredit on itself. Pray Tell reported yesterday that “some experts have been eliminated from the preparation of liturgical books because of their criticism of the missal translation project.” Today’s online Tablet (subs...

Areas of Difficulty

The excellent Catholic Sensibility has a link to a document illustrating in detail the problems with the 2010 version of the Missal translation.

Not so. He's a hate figure for eccentrics on the traditionalist fringes who don't have appropriate regard for truth or charity.

Re: Unity with Liturgical Diversity

This appears to be something of a departure from tradition, in the sense that a branch that split off is returning, rather than a branch growing out of the root Surely there's ample precedent? All the eastern-rite Catholic churches (barring the Maronites, I think) are either reunited Eastern/Orient...

Nah, it's what in newspapers is called a teaser - give the readers a juicy tidbit and then they're hooked. Possibly.

Re: Not sure about all this 'traditionalism'.

Thanks Gabriel, that's heart-warming! Next, the Cardinal will be required to explain, very slowly and in words of one syllable, that the hermeneutic of rupture is mainly a traditionalists' foible.

Re: Damian Thompson is my friend

Also feel I should apologise to the Society because, by trying to support it I have effectively held it aloft so others can throw bricks at it. Not a bit of it, Nick. You've done a great job. DT may be contemptible for his lack of concern either for understanding the liturgy or for telling the trut...

Re: A question of image

The reaction I've had almost universally from those who know nothing about SSG is that name gives the impression that we're the 'plainsong preservation society' At least some people take a contrary view: witness the discussion in the comments following this entry on the New Liturgical Movement blog...

"a misguided conviction that the individual in question has a musical leadershp role that can be exercised from within the assembly. I know - I've stood next to someone like this more than once." I am picturing somebody who actually bursts forth into a solo uninvited, from the pews during Mass. If ...

Re: Sploosh!

...that means being brave enough to step out of the safety of the 'choir boat' and into that sea of horrible faces - the congregation, sitting in the pews and singing aloud amongst the masses. This bothers me quite a bit. I think there's quite some scope for self-delusion here. I've had the experie...
