Re: Help, Lord, the souls that thou hast made

Might be of interest to some... "n.18 -- To the faithful in danger of death who cannot be assisted by a priest to bring them the sacraments and impart the apostolic blessing with its attendant plenary indulgence (according to canon 468, para. 2 of the Code of Canon Law) Holy Mother Church never...

Re: Lent gathering song

I've used This is the time of fulfillment effectively as a refrain to the introit on the first Sunday, with the 'verses' being the Litany of the Saints to the normal tone. That way, we have the Ceremonial of Bishops' request to use the Litany, but with a bit of choral interest...

Re: World Youth Day Mass, with new translation

I missed that entirely - and share a certain discomfort about it.
The notes at the Liturgy Office website say that they have had specific permission to use the new translation.

Active Participation?

Interesting piece which traces the development of the term 'Active Participation', which is currently in danger of being hijacked and pushed 'inwards' as a response to some of the daffier things that people have done in its name. http://www.heythrop.ac.uk/images/stories/College/Staffdocs/cameron_mow...

Re: who does Pange Lingua?

We do the first 4 verses in English then in Latin to Picardy, and the Tantum Ergo itself to the Gregorian melody. Quite simple, gives people time to familiarise themselves with the pronunciation, and can work pretty well. Also covers the action nicely...

Try this. It's a GIA publication - you should be able to get it easily. I don't have the dots to hand, I'm afraid...

Re: Psallite Gloria(?)

I reckon he means the Michael Joncas setting from the Psallite Mass. 6/8, quite jaunty and in G. If you have Gather Comprehensive (edition before last) it's no 209. Decani probably has it.

Re: Mass from Sistine Chapel, 13.01.08

First, the Holiness has been very prudent in celebrating in this manner, using the current Missal rather than that of John XXIII. The arguments from Tradition and from architecture seem to be the strongest for 'Eastward facing', 'ad Dominum', or whatever favoured title is at the moment. As for the t...

Rites of Scrutiny

I hope this isn't a double post - Mr Bear will no doubt tell me if it is!

What do various places do for the Rites of Scrutiny when they're celebrated on Sundays 3-5 of Lent? It might be interesting to have a little canter through the other parts of the RCIA as well.

Re: The wickedness of face cream

First Sunday of Lent, year of Luke, Deuteronomy 26.
'My Father was a wandering Aramean.'
On more than one occasion I've heard it rendered as 'my Father was a wandering Armenian.'
Marvellous. Every time it comes around, I wait for it!

NPM in the States: Pastoral Music

The NPM has put online it's full archive of Pastoral Music, from 1976-2004, all available in PDF format. As always with these things, the first glance reveals a mixed bag, but it's well worth a look.

Enjoy.

Presbyter, I think my own implicit acceptance of the title 'Mother Church' of Westminster Cathedral probably flows from my identification of the holder of the office of Archbishop of Westminster with his Cathedral Church. If certain 'privileges' (although we can continue to argue about what those ar...

Oh dear! Forgive me for keeping this whole thing off topic for a bit longer, but there do seem to be some things that need clearing up. I'm going to try, at least... 1. Primates: England and Wales doesn't have one. There was at the re-establishment of the Hierarchy only one Metropolitan, whose incum...

Presbyter, I agree. Problem is, there are persons coming from various corners who treat the ritual uniformity of the Latin Rite in all its elements as though it were the Gospel itself. The Council itself is not something I would presume to question; I would quibble with some of the narrower interpre...
