Re: PANEL decisions

How ironic: the panel's reply for one of my pieces recently submitted for consideration has misspelt my name. Perhaps I should return it: "withheld - editorial"...

Re: First Mass in new translation: so how was it?

Our PP has done a pretty good job over the last few months in preparing the people for the new texts. We're using the McCrimmons' Mass cards, which seem straightforward enough. He started last week with us using the new text as far as the General Intercessions; this week he introdcued the communion ...

Light relief

If you've not seen it, you can take a virtual tour of the Sistine chapel . To navigate around it, the controls are in the lower left of the browser frame. The detail is fairly impressive. If you have sound, then there's music too, apparently. (I have no sound here at work, so can't tell you what it ...

Re: Papal Mass Music - copyright

Paul, Any news as yet? We are planning to use your psalm response as printed in the Magnificat booklet on the 19th - and I doubt if we are the only parish planning to do this. Would you prefer us not to use it if it has been illegally printed? No news. I can't stop you using the psalm - indeed, in ...

Southern Comfort wrote:There is a Calamus/Decani acknowledgement. Are you covered by that?

There is no Calamus acknowledgement on my piece - I have no agreement with Calamus to handle my copyright. I've been assured this morning that all is being sorted.

Re: Papal Visit

as commented here , I can confirm, P, that no approach for permission has been made for my melody line. How deliciously ironic that the reading that comes immediately before the psalm is Amos 8:4-7: "Listen to this, you who trample on the needy… The Lord swears 'Never will I forget a single thi...

Re: Papal Mass Music - copyright

As a copyright holder (p274, responsorial psalm at Cofton Park), I have not been approached for permission to include my work in the Magnificat booklet. On a pro rata basis, based on the fee SC reports to have been paid to B&H, I should expect about £150. I'm not holding my breath…

Re: Software at your service

That's not the original text by a very long way It is from the Worcester Antiphoner ... and the texts at Durham are quoted as having the invocations for the queen and archbishop reversed in order... so, I beg to differ with your supposition about it not being the original text. Also, the 'pointing'...

Re: Software at your service

I am having increasing need for software to print plainchant... I got round to playing some more with the Finale plugin that produces nuemes. I had forgotten just how fiddly it is to get the layout looking decent, and I have to report that running in Finale 2008, the plugin occasionally causes Fian...

Re: Swine flu

musicus, Birmingham have issued guidelines, much along the lines of Hallam - Communion will be only the host and only communicated int he hand; no shaking hands at sign of peace. Our PP said that he was not implementing it until the 'flu became a problem... why not leave it up to the individual to d...

Re: Music for weddings

The people's parts are based on simple, recurring patterns, have a comfortable tonal range, and lack difficult rhythms. Not inclined to agree with you - look at the stuff on ICEL's site: it has no indication of rhythm other than bar lines, but leaves it up to the individuals to know what the quarte...

Re: Cantors and animators

Many, many years ago, I went for some weeks to a course for Cantors led by Bernadette Farrell and Paul Inwood. Bernadette drummed into us what she referred to as the Cantor's Creed : When a word will do, don't use a sentence; When a gesture will do, don't use a word; When a look will do, don't use a...
