Or perhaps Southwark cathedral has a taller and narrower aspect than Westminster?

Re: Installation of new Archbishop of Southwark

It was good to find the cctv inside the cathedral operating after several years of decline - but the locally vaunted new live diocesan YouTube broadcast failed after about 30 minutes. However, you can view a recording of the entire celebration at https://youtu.be/RWN_MG3nCVk

With yet more relevance to funerals, a version of the Song of Farewell is sung to the Londonderry Air.

Re: Communion under both kinds

At an abbey in NW France, where I have sometimes attended Mass, distribution under both kinds involves intinction, which is not permitted in England & Wales. (Perhpas becuase it smacks of self-administration, which is reserved to the ordained?) On my first visit, not having watched what those in...

Re: Hymns that conflict with Catholic doctrine.

At the recent "Adoremus" congress, on 8 September, Bishop Robert Barron, in one of his keynote addresses picked out the one line in the hymn, “Not in some heaven light years away,” and criticised it on the basis that that heaven is not light years away but is very close to us in the Euchar...

Re: Services of Word and Communion in the absence of a priest.

Some months ago, I discovered by chance that - after taking place for a decade or more - weekday services with distribution of Communion had ceased in my parish, even when a neighbouring deacon was available to preside. Regular attendees are of the opinion that this ban had followed the arrival of a...

Re: Antiphonal Singing of Latin Plainchant Mass Settings

Singing at Sunday's (14 Oct.) Canonisation Mass at St Peter's was antiphonal in the extreme - I suspect adopted as a way of working with the vast crowd of people from many nations, rather than from a desire to exhibit a preference. An excellent Order of Service was provided, but no effort was made t...

Re: Music for Papal Mass in Phoenix Park, Dublin

The criteria for election are listed as "In choosing music, the Liturgy Committee has prioritised repertoire that maximises congregational involvement, drawing on the “Sing the Mass” publication and including works by Irish composers so that our native culture is well represented."

Re: Liturgical Tourism

Of course, I'm delighted that those responsible for the current non-Latin texts have decided to use inclusve language for once and admit that non-mascuine persons may be "of goodwill". However, if we are going to examine the minutiae, they'd have had a good excuse in the Gloria, because ho...

Re: Liturgical Tourism

Curious that those responsible for the current English language text for the Mass actually used the inclusive term "people" in that phrase, as opposed to their usual preference for "men".

Re: First communion music

Yes, of course, the Catechism of the Church is clear about this. "[1669] Sacramentals derive from the baptismal priesthood: every baptized person is called to be a "blessing," and to bless. Hence lay people may preside at certain blessings; the more a blessing concerns ecclesial and s...

Re: First communion music

Deacons can legimately impart certain blessings; Eucharistic MInisters cannot. They can however, like any Christian, request God to look with favour upon people.
