Re: New Translation of the Lectionary incoming

Exactly SC, it is the degendering of God that I find irritating. Maundy Thursday psalm : O precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful,... Strike out 'his' , write 'the' . You can argue that the meaning is the same. What's the point? The Lord fills the earth with his love. Are you ...

Re: New Translation of the Lectionary incoming

I am sufficiently comfortable as a female member of the human race not to be bothered about 'inclusive' language, except that it make for some very clumsy edits in psalms and hymns. I find replacing every use of the words 'he, him, his' with 'God, who, whose' is a pain aesthetically and vocally.

Re: Limited supply of Psalmists for the Easter Vigil

I used an earlier Exsultet version from Dom Gregory Murray in 1987 the first time I sang it, as I did not at that time have the confidence to sing the Missal tone.

Re: So sad

Oh Oops, it has been so sad, and our congregation seems to have changed completely. We have lost so many who have not returned to Mass. We have a very big influx of newcomers to this country. It's going to take time to get them involved. One funeral at the height of Covid, the daughter came to my ho...

Re: Limited supply of Psalmists for the Easter Vigil

High Peak, well done for having all 7 readings and psalms, as we used to do, until change of PP in lat 2017. We have had HWEs with him, with a responsorial Exsultet, and only 4 readings and psalms. No music at all last Covid year. all over in 40 minutes! I was privileged, especially as a woman, to s...

Re: New Guidelines from the Bishops Conference of England & Wales

We watch a zoomed Mass 5 days a week, as we only have Mass here on Sunday and Wednesday. I see servers, readers, extraordinary ministers, a distanced sign of peace, and daily Mass, none of which has been reinstated in our parish, and we don't know how to get things going. We are singing, but no Glor...

I am quite relieved, reading this, that we managed to negotiate that lot! PP did come over to make sure we had the psalm for Yr C Holy Family,

We have even had a recorded version of Amazing Grace. Barmy, but for many people recorded music is all they know.

Re: "Choirs"

Our parish school has so little singing these days apart from 'hymn practice', which, I have to say, has led to an improvement in the singing since it is voice led by our 'praise music' leader, rather than a pianist who never sang. However, Christian schools are spending large sums of money on a pro...

Exactly. Thanks Nick, all very helpful.
The concerts have tended to be classical. But yes, asking directly is a good plan.

Re: One License takes over from Calamus

I've been looking for an answer. I don't think we do, especially as PPL say they don't charge for funerals and weddings. And anyway their annual fee is lower than that charged for going through CCLI. I think the matter arrises when we have fundraiser concerts by a local Steiner school for Chernobyl ...

Re: One License takes over from Calamus

My parish has just received an invoice from CCLI for £566.71 for our annual licence. This would cover: Church copyright licence £222 Music Reproduction Licence £111 PPL Church Licence £117.49 PRS for Music, Church Licence. £116.22 I know we now project our music on screens, and a certain amount of m...
