Re: Two Issues (Communion Hymns and Month of May)

What our parish has done in the past is to have a little procession AFTER Mass to the statue of Our Lady as we have sung something to Our Lady. No big deal, think we then had a few Hail Marys and everyone was happy!

But the music during Mass is relative to the Mass.

Re: Learning the Ave Maria

Reminds me of being asked to sing at a wedding and the only information I got was that the bride wanted Ave Maria. Duly phoned her to find out more and which Ave Maria she had in mind. Eventually she sang it to me. Still, it was fun telling the person who thought they were doing a solo she was not r...

Re: New Pope

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

We could be in for a very interesting time. Like his humour in saying to the other cardinals he shared the bus with last night that he hoped God would forgive them for what they have done.

We have had a pope resign - has a pope ever been sacked!

Hare, please do not over-react. If anyone should stay away from the forum it should be me as you are a more active participant.

Re: Closure of Department for Pastoral Formation - Portsmout

To clarify, I am more annoyed with myself for clicking on the link and should have known better. In one way I do regret it was posted in here but feel happier now I know you did not have an ulterior motive or there was any gleeful enjoyment in someone else's misfortune. That is the problem with foru...

Re: Closure of Department for Pastoral Formation - Portsmout

I know at least one lay person in my diocese has been made redundant, not recently but in the last few years, and his jobs has been taken on by a priest. It puzzles me as there is supposedly a shortage of vocations to the priesthood and we should be doing more to help but then one of these oh precio...

Re: Closure of Department for Pastoral Formation - Portsmout

This is not good news and I am sorry Paul has lost his job. Only know him from the Summer Schools but I wish him well for the future and have no doubts whatsoever we will hear more from him. Unfortunately I read the link in one of the threads above and found it very, very sad. That is not my idea of...

Re: A Gospel Acclamation tone?

In Salford, our weekday sheets recommend using the Easter Alleluia tone with the words "Praise to you, Lord! Glory to you, Christ: you are the Word of God!" I have sung those words a few times but so far I have been singing alone. They will join in if I say the words of the Acclamation but...

Re: SSG Annual Conference - Clifton Cathedral, Bristol

Looking forward to meeting up with members on the Friday evening, both for the tour and the meal afterwards. Hopefully some of them have also booked into Emmaus House for the night.

Different format this year so it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Re: "Ah-men" or "Ay-men" ("Ay" as in "day" etc)

I have just come back from Ireland and they say ay-men but I was saying ah-men. Then we got into some old, just about remembered babbled prayers and I found myself just automatically saying ay-men. Mind you, all prayers and responses were done so quickly it became a race to just try and keep up. The...

Re: What are the people saying about the new translation?

Don't travel round to many different churches so can only comment on the one I attend. In the choir, we tend to smile if we go into auto-pilot and recite the old words and pick up the card when whatever we should be saying is almost done. Most people are trying and reading from the cards. Looking at...

I think we cannot close down the forum as so much valuable information is on here. Many good suggestions/possible solutions being made so this item in AOB should indeed lead to a lively discussion. Is there wi-fi available in the meeting room? Is there any point bring laptops so we can actually refe...
