Re: Hymn for deceased parishioners

Yes, since we had an Ordinariate Group with their priest join our parish we have sung this every year on our Parish Feast Day - Christ the King. And yes, it is a real tear-jerker as your remember former parishioners.

But it is a great hymn.

Re: Ascension Day

Ascension Day and Epiphany were probably moved back because they have are shared with other denominations and also occur (biblically for Ascension and by tradition for Epiphany) a set number of days after a previous event (i.e. Easter and Christmas). Also, moving Ascension Day back allows for a full...

Re: Easter Vigil - when did you start and finish?

Compromise was with the more "pastoral" members of the Liturgy Committee. PP and MC both wanted to make sure it was after dark (although being next to a roundabout on the N Circular we don't really know what dark means).

Re: Easter Vigil - when did you start and finish?

Started announcements to explain procession and get people out side at 8pm. Fire lit about 8:15. This was a compromise on my suggestion that the earliest we should start was 8:30. No baptisms this year - finished around 10:30 then back for 9am and 11am Easter Morning.

Re: The 'New' Translation - your recommended music settings

For Glorias we have been using Nick Baty's Warrington Gloria. Chris Walker's Belmont is also used occasionally when resources are limited (along with a locally produced update of the Lourdes Gloria). For Eucharistic Acclamations we are using: Chris Walker's Belmont (Lent and when resources are scarc...

Re: Maundy numbers

We were full on Holy Thursday(we ran out of orders of service). Watch numbers were the highest I've ever known - we didn't have the usual rush for the door once father left. Yesterday was full but we only had a handful of people in the porch. In previous years they have been standing outside the chu...

Tried it for the first time last year and it worked remarkably well. I did warn people before hand not to worry when the organ stopped playing.

Re: Ring out your Venite

There's always the BCP translation O COME, let us sing unto the LORD; * let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; * and show ourselves glad in him with psalms. 3 For the LORD is a great God; * and a great King above all gods. 4 In ...

Re: We're having a nativity play...

For some years now we have had the following format (with varying amount of acting/miming from the children) for 30 mins before our 7pm Christmas Eve Mass. Ding, Dong merrily (to let people know we are starting and get quiet) Zechariah is told Elisabeth will have a baby Once in Royal The Annunciatio...
