Re: Liturgical Tourism

Curious that those responsible for the current English language text for the Mass actually used the inclusive term "people" in that phrase, as opposed to their usual preference for "men". Our local park has a sign saying: "It is an offence to allow your dog to foul this par...

We used to call one spot "The prayer of St Vitus".

None was used, but it was necessary if people were to believe in the validity of the process.

You have explained the fons et origo of the plot theories very well.

Re: Responsorial Psalm

I wish that Rome would stop considering English and American to be the same language. Consider the following sentences:

Go do the math.

Make sure your football does not go off the pavement.

Re: SSG Communications - what the heck is going on?

... The idea that the Council Fathers were betrayed by excessive implementation of reforms they had not asked for is untenable: it was the same bishops who asked for them who had been at the Council. The question is not whether the same bishops were asked: it is whether all the bishops were asked b...

Re: Responsorial Psalm

Kevin Mayhew has a book "Responsorial Psalms for the Catholic Lectionary" by Colin Mawby. I would expect that being Mawby the music would be fine, but are the words correct? Has anyone seen this book? There is no "look inside" facility on Mayhew's website, at least not one that I...

Re: Responsorial Psalm

Paul's new collection, The Collegeville Psalter, is available from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0814646166/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Its a whopping £28.61, so I will wait until it hits the charity shop shelves. Is the US lectionary still out of step on the psalm word...

Re: Responsorial Psalm

We use the Bolton Smith book occasionally, the McCrimmons book a lot, and the rest we take from a book "The Catholic Supplement" by Mayhew. This latter is a very odd collection of bits and pieces published in 1999 which never seemed to catch on. It does include a complete set of psalms, un...

Re: SSG Communications - what the heck is going on?

...Documentary evidence for all this will be found in Piero Marini's splendid book A Challenging Reform ... The trouble with that, and Bugnini's book, is that they are accounts by the people involved. The people who are satisfied with the new mass tend to look on them as if they were audit reports ...

Re: SSG Communications - what the heck is going on?

I will start by saying that I do not endorse any particular website or point of view, and that I largely disagree with the New Liturgical Movement. It seems to me that many "catholic " websites actually seek to innovate. They have an idea, which presumably they think will benefit the churc...

Re: SSG Communications - what the heck is going on?

I agree that some traditionalist web sites do seem to be trying to undo what Vatican 2 brought about, but most seem to be trying to undo things which happened after the council, but were not mandated by it.

Re: Lectionary for Sunday - the Holy Family - yr B

...Can't really see anyone singing "He, the Lord, is our God. He remembers his covenant for ever." You had me worried, as that was what I had rehearsed, and it was too late to change. In the event, it went off well and the congregation picked up the response immediately. Perhaps you could...

St Anne's Leeds Midnight Mass

I was very taken with this year's broadcast midnight mass from Leeds: I thought they did very well indeed. Did anyone recognise the setting of the Responsorial Psalm they used? I felt that the music carried the words well and was tuneful into the bargain, and would like to see if we could cope with ...
