Re: Living Liturgy

My copy has just arrived. For a CTS publication, it's quite good.

Re: O God of every shining constellation

It's somewhere between Geoffrey Beaumont and John Rutter. Paul's a fine musician and a very nice guy – he's served Songs of Praise well over the years. In this version there's a brief glimpse of him conducting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00k5y7t

Parish Website Advice

Not quite liturgy – although connected – so am hoping the mods will allow this: Am presuming there are a few parish webmasters on here, so am hoping one of you can offer a little advice. In short, we need a parish website and I'm wondering what to use. My own website (Concept Music) uses RapidWeaver...

We'll be using his later(?) one, pub OCP, which appears in several collections including Laudate.

Re: Lectionary for Sunday - the Holy Family - yr B

Very interesting, SC. We'll be sticking with Mr Inwood's "O blessed are those" which seems to fit both choices of first reading. Can't really see anyone singing "He, the Lord, is our God. He remembers his covenant for ever."

Re: O Holy Night

We've used it a few times over the years – as a warm up for the assembly, about 10 mins before kick-off, with soft brass ensemble chords underneath (ra-ta-ta taaa, ra-ta-ta taaa). Not one of my faves but it works well round here and is often requested. When you have a church full of once-a-year folk...

Re: Gloria settings

We're looking for....something that fits better for Christmas, Easter and other big occasions. We've looked at...Nick Baty's Warrington (as we use the Eucharistic acclamations from that setting) I'll probably be censured for this, but you might like to try Gloria Santa Klaus from the same stable. h...

Re: Offertory hymns

PS. Can we save this item until the Presentation of Gifts, rather than ploughing through it during the collection? (Although that's exactly what I did this morning! :? )

Re: Offertory hymns

That being so, the Song during the Presentation of the Gifts is like a kind of hinge, joining the two Tables together. It' also the third of the four processions during Mass and, as the other three all take their theme from the Gospel, so should the Presentation of Gifts. I like Southern Comfort's ...

Getting folk to pick up a hymn book, open it at the right page at the right time and join in is tricky enough without randomising which verses are going to be used.
Totally agree. One of the many reasons we never use hymn books.
