Re: Olives or Palms?

Interestingly, re the use of willow branches, my grandmother always called *beep* willow (of which there was a great deal round the home where I grew up) as - palm - which used to puzzle me. Now I understand.

Re: "Adoration and Chips"

Thank you SC. The most wonderful thing IMHO about the Blessed Sacrament is what I first dimly became aware of as a young convert many years ago getting to grips with Catholic teaching - and which has become more and more real in the years since, is that by consuming the Blessed Sacrament at Mass we ...

Re: The post-Christmas period

After having realised rather late in the day that we had not had Holy Family Year C for a long time (and I am usually away on Holy Family anyway) - we had no responsorial psalm, so I quickly wrote one, and we had a practice - but unfortunately the two who tuned up on Boxing Day morning (one of whom ...

Re: SSG Summer School 2021

I endorse Southern Comfort's comments below. It was excellent - all the more so as it was done under very difficult corcumstances. Thank you!

Re: New Translation of the Lectionary incoming

Thanks - now I know. However, I don't understand - if NRSV (Catholic, English edition) is considered the 'best' at the moment (and I have a very smart hardback edition which I use) why is the Lectionary using ESV and not NRSV?

Re: New Translation of the Lectionary incoming

Is the ESV the same as - or dfferent from - the NRSV Catholic Edition which is what I thought we were supposed to be using? If it is not the same how is it different? And if so, why is it different?

Re: Women in 'Minor Orders'

I can recommend a book called 'The Hidden History of Women's Ordination' (forgotten the author and I can noi longer find it on my shelf) but it goes right back to the early church - who was doing what, why and when) and how it all got suppressed. Guess why?

Re: Live-streamed liturgy: what about music?

That all sounds very complicated Keitha - but where I have 'been' over this Easter, the officiating clergy have done their own singing - and very competently I should add. I'm happy with that.

Re: Live-streamed liturgy: what about music?

As did the Dean of Northampton yesterday for the livestreamed Mass for the Annunciation - he sang the essential bits unacc (Gospel Acclamation, Sanctus, Memorial Acclamation, and a Taize Communion prcessional). Not a lot, but it worked and under the circumstances, what more could he have done? It wo...

Re: New Bishop of Northampton

Yes - I'm looking forward to meeting him properly in due course. Didn't see anyone filming, though a photoragher was wandering around and came up to the gallery at one point. +Peter will be much missed.

New Bishop of Northampton

I sang yesterday (19th March St Joseph's day) at the consecration and installation of the new bishop behind closed doors - it went well considering the circumstances but felt very odd. At one point I looked over the gallery and counted about 20 in the (authorised) congregation - all well spaced. A g...

Re: SSG Spring Gathering Winchester 14th March 2020

I'm not able to do this one, so I'm looking at Buckley and Burham on Sea. There are two Catholic churches in Burham on Sea: English Martyrs and St Andrew - which is it please?

Yes - it was a good day - I especially appreciated the opening talk by David McLaughlin - v interesting but he was running short of time and kept having to move on.
