Composers group meeting in London on 19th Sept?

Hello Musicus and other members of Composers' Group:

Just wondered if the meeting in London will be going ahead as it is not advertised on the website yet and no email notice has been sent out. If it is, I need to give myself a major jolt to compose something. Go on, give me the jolt!

Re: updated website.

Hang on, Peter: aren't you the one who's against trails altogether, or was that another Peter objecting to the trailing of Phil Archer's death on Radio 4 in the last few days? :) It sure sounded like you!

Re: Haugen on tour

Just to put the record straight, I have admiration for quite a bit of Haugen's music (eg. Shepherd me, O God, Now in this banquet), but I think a surfeit of it might alienate some people. I don't know that views on Haugen are as polarised as Presbyter suggests.

Even more like Marmite, you can love him if his music is spread thinly enough!

Re: SSG Annual Conference

The date was publicised in the last two issues of Music & Liturgy. For non-subscribers to M&L like me, this is the first publicity received. How will non-members be attracted if it's only publicised in a members-only magazine? I may have dropped my membership because my musical activity has...

Re: Special ascii characters useful to musicians & liturgists

Guys: 4 pages later, and I'm understanding less and less of what you're saying, and I still can't make a blessed umlaut appear by the methods you suggest. I think we do make our lives more difficult by having 101 routes to do the same job and adding more and more layers of sophistication, constant u...

Re: How do dioceses fund music?

The Birmingham Archdiocesan choir sings at the Cathedral for the Rite of Election, ordination of deacons, Ubi Caritas awards. Someone else is better placed to comment on funding than I; all I know is that I sometimes get a free meal! In its time, the choir has been moderately ambitious with its repe...

Re: Diocese of Leeds Choral Director Post

Well, I did wonder if it means "green with envy" or just "naive" (where's the umlaut when you need it?). Whichever it is, it fits.

Now return us to topic, Mr Bear.

Re: Diocese of Leeds Choral Director Post

Wish I could be a kid again. I was brought up in the Diocese of Leeds and travelled to Leeds every Saturday for my piano lesson. There was nothing like this in my time.

Re: What's the difference..?

Today was the "Sunday with no musicians" (see above) and I duly played the hymns for a congregation, whose response was measurable in the presence of the Children's Liturgy group and almost imperciptible in their absence (there are several strong singers involved in children's liturgy). We...

Re: What's the difference..?

"AND IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU COULD OBEY YOUR PARISH PRIEST!" That quote is verbatim. Keith A: I respect all the posts where you've referred to diplomacy as the best course of action. I like your idea, Sop, of turning up and playing accs as well as hymns. My idea to sing them unaccompanied ...

Re: What's the difference..?

Rewinding back to the top of this thread: what's the difference? The question could be, in the light of my experience today: Q/ What's the difference between a parish priest and a parishoner? A/ You can't argue with a parish priest (even when they are liturgically incorrect) My PP approached me toda...

Re: Agnus Dei...or not!

It's happened to me loads, usually with the Memorial Acclamation.
Conversely, we've also had the Psalm reader approaching the microphone, to be told unceremoniously that "the psalm will be sung"

Awaiting the collective clicking of tongues
