Re: Fit for purpose

'Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault' is the most natural thing in the world to me. It is what I learned as a six year old, preparing for my First Confession and it is what I have said all my life every time I go to Confession. I never took to the 1970s version.

Re: Heritage Open Days

I think that the shrine church of St. Peter, Paul and Philomena in Birkenhead has quite a full programme for the heritage Open days as does the Bar Convent ln York on the other side of the Pennines

Re: Corpus Christi - the sequence

We will be singing the version given in the Parish Mass Book (and in missalettes). The short form has the last two verses beginning 'Behold the bread of angels'. It fits perfectly to the plainsong tune given in Plainsong for Schools or The Westminster Hymnal (No. 247 verse 11 on). You could also sin...

Re: Renewal of Baptismal promises on Easter Day

We always have sprinkling on Easter Sunday. At the Vigil we sang 'I saw water flowing' from Psallite Mass. We used verses 1,2 and 5. Verse 1 is a translation of the
Vidi Aquam. No choir on Easter Sunday morning so returned to 'Water of Life'. No Baptisms or Confirmations this year.

Re: Maundy numbers

From a small-town Yorkshire parish, average weekly Mass attendance around 300. Maundy Thursday: 110. Good Friday: 150. Easter Vigil: 100. Easter Sunday: Too many to count but around 400. Counted from the Choir loft. On Holy Saturday at noon there was a Polish food blessing. I happened to drive by ab...

Re: Where are we heading with liturgical formation?

Well, yes. Bishops deciding how to deal with Clerical sexual abuse in their own Dioceses.
That worked well didn't it?

Bishops

Our Fathers in God, the Bishops of England and Wales have chosen to spend a week or so on retreat and in Conference in sunny Italy. Several of their dioceses have recently announced cost-cutting measures in the realms of Liturgy and Music. One diocese is considering a levy of £10 per pupil per annum...

Papal Inauguration Mass

Does anyone else agree wuth me about the general awfulness of Polyphonic inserts into Plainsong? I hated the Gloria and the Te Deum. (I did not see all the Mass. there may heve been more.) I would be glad of enlightenment regarding a Composer called Palumbella whose music was used here and there. Wh...

Re: Regulation of New Hymnals and their use

If a Psalm is published in an approved Hymn collection, does this mean that it may be used as the Responsorial psalm at Mass? I am thinking of 'Taste and see' (Stephen Dean. New Laudate 617) for Mass on March 10th, Lent 4. Is this allowed ? People often choose the Scottish Psalter metrical psalm 'Th...

Re: Bishop Arthur Roche - Vatican Appointment

Another concern must be his health. He cancelled most Diocesan engagements over the winter while he recovered from a nasty bout of pneumonia. I understand that he is still not completely out of the wood. Perhaps the climate chenge might help. It is to be hoped that Leeds gets a bishop who is able to...

Mass from Leeds

MASS FROM LEEDS. Did anyone else listen to the Mass broadcast yesterday from Holy Rosary, Leeds? It was on BBC. Radio 4 at 8-10 a.m. The Mass ordinary was completely unknown to me. The Parish primary school sang. Beautiful singing -- so it should be, given the resources being put into Holy Rosary sc...

Re: Congregational singing of hymns

Bevenot also produced a very singable set of melodies in re, mi, sol etc.
for the propers of the Mass. A small dark brown hardback,I seem to remember.
I still posess the accompaniment book. I contains Music for the Easter Vigil, Sequences
and interludes.
