Re: New Translation of the Lectionary incoming
Thanks for that excellent full reply. So its the usual bungling with no thought for the consequences then. With almost all parishes worrying about their futures in any form post Covid, and with returning parishioners in all states of worry and grief, the episcopal shepherds would do well to concentr...

Re: Bishops' Vademecum for Holy Week 2021
My plan for the psalms will be to have the response once at the beginning and at the end and to straight through the verses.
We have no singing at all and to have the Exultet as the first bit of singing will be profound.

Re: Just popping in.....
This will pass. The worry is what will be left when full worshipping re-starts. We are allowed 80 in our socially distanced church. We get under 60. I go. I play hymns. People appreciate it. We give sad little waves across the building to each other which are answered by thumbs up, or the waggling h...

Lets hope musicians get sight of it early enough to adjust/re-write responsorial psalms.

Re: Women in 'Minor Orders'
There has been precious little money for lay education and formation in the past.
I suspect the impact of Covid on collections will mean even fewer funds in future.

Re: Women in 'Minor Orders'
Thank you for your considered reply. If I might reflect on it There is a certain 'confusion' of language in alan29's email. I hope the question marks mean its ok to offer some clarification (at least at the level of the theory of things!) If lay people do these things at present it is by virtue of ...

Re: Women in 'Minor Orders'
It raises a number of questions. If lay people do these things at present it is by virtue of their baptism .... why "clericalize" this lay right? If they are commissioned by the bishop will it be just for their parish, or for a wider ministry? Will commissioned people go to the top of the queue when...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Because it isn't. It is for some of us Can I presume you live in a part of the world where there are so many pastoral musicians champing at the bit that you will never be able to serve again? We've just lost our building. But we have no intention of giving up. Good for you. And good luck to you and...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
I'd agree with everything John said. One caveat about humming, even when wearing a mask. Fairly early on (March/April) they did studies on humming as an alternative to singing and found that just as much was produced in the way of aerosol, even when the hummer was masked. Every week or two, someone...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
I am less despondent. I think that those who return when things like singing and provision for children restart will be wanting to sing. I worry more that people will have lost the habit of going to church and will have found other ways of filling that time on a Sunday. I can see a time of shrinkag...

Re: The Government's Guidelines for Public Worship II - the return of choir groups
Of course this change is of no use at all in parishes like mine where we have no choir.
