Canon Gerry Coates, a long-time member and supporter of the Society of Saint Gregory and of its mission, died on 10th October 2017. His ministry spanned over 60 years, both as a parish priest and within the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton for Cathechetics (as Christian Initiation was known then). Gerry attended his first SSG Summer School in 1950 in Glasgow while still a seminarian. This experience transformed his vision of the liturgy, and inspired his ministry and the training of curates who joined him in parish work. Through the years and up until a few years ago, he attended Summer Schools and encouraged others to do the same. He celebrated his Diamond Jubilee of Ordination in 2014. His presence and wisdom will be missed.
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Reception of the body: Monday 6th November, 5 pm in Arundel Cathedral, with the celebration of Evening Prayer
Requiem: Tuesday 7th November, 12 noon.
