Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Sunday Worship from Bradford

Postby Chris » Sun Mar 14, 2010 5:04 pm

SSG members may be interested to know that Sunday worship broadcast this morning on BBC R4 came live from St Joseph's Catholic Church in Bradford.

Music was led by several hundred children from Catholic schools in Bradford and Keighley who are members of the Diocese of Leeds singing programme.

Music (old and new) included:

Hymn: For Mary Mother of the Lord
Penitential Rite: Andrew Wadsworth
Hymn: At the Cross her station keeping
Motet: Ave Maria (Lindley)
Motet: O Mary of Promise (Warner)
Intercessions: O Lord hear my prayer (Taize)
Hymn: Holy Virgin by God's decree (arr Cullen)

You can listen again in for 7 days http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00r8dfz/Sunday_Worship_People_on_the_Edge_of_His_Pain/

The script can be read here

It is a great privilege to be part of such a thriving Catholic young peoples singing programme!

Not sure about this...

Have the young people been misled?

No mention of Laetare Sunday or Lent.

Is this what the Bishops want us to sing?

Has this service ignored both the BVM and her Son?

I enjoyed this - how can I get hold of that rather splendid arrangement of Holy Virgin?

in reference to johnquin39 post

The programmme was part of the BBC's Lenten series in partnership Churches Together in Britain and Ireland entitled 'people on the edge of his pain.'

Each week a different character from the passion narrative is examined - the fourth Sunday of Lent being Mothering Sunday making the obvious choice Mary, the mother of God.

For more information on the BBC/CTBI Lent series go to: http://www.ctbi.org.uk/424

Mithras - please PM me for a copy of Holy Virgin.

I've just listened to it. My congratulations to all the musicians involved, especially the children. They all did very well.

For anyone interested in "O Mary of Promise", you can get a free sample copy of it here:

It's very playable and deserves to be more widely known.
