Next meeting

18 October: St Mary’s Priory, Bamber Bridge.

The next SSG composers meeting is coming up shortly. The date is October 18th at St Mary’s Priory Church, Bamber Bridge, just south of Preston. Due to their early morning service/confessions we will have to start at 11.00 am for 11.30am and finish at 4.30 pm, with the usual break for lunch. In other words everything is put forward by half an hour. Anyone is welcome, whether you are a member of the SSG or not, and you do not have to be a composer. We welcome people who write texts/lyrics, observers and any other interested musicians. If you intend to show a piece please remember to bring about 10 copies of it with you. To help me ensure everyone gets a chance to show their pieces please let me know if you intend to come. It might be helpful for you to know that the room where we shall meet boasts a full Wyvern Digital Organ; however I have also asked for a keyboard. The church itself is vast and well worth visiting. The parish website is found here.

Travel directions:

By Rail: Main line to Preston Station. Then take the branch line to Bamber Bridge station. The church is about 5 minutes walk from there (see below). Useful trains from Preston are 9.34 am and 10.31 am. The travel time 10 minutes.

By Car: M6 to junction 29. Take the M65 west towards Preston. Then either turn onto the A 49 (Wigan Rd) north towards Preston. Cross the A6 at the next roundabout onto Station Rd (B 6256. Go past the railway station/level crossing. Turn left 100 yds further on up Brownedge Lane. You will see the church spire in the distance. The church itself is 400 yds further on on the right. Alternatively, go to the roundabout at the end of the M65. Take the A6 north towards Preston. Turn right down Brownedge Lane (B5257) and the church is on your left. For those who like to consult navigational aids the postcode is PR5 6SP. Park either in the church car park on in the church grounds. Go to the presbytery and ring the bell for Fr Terence Richardson, the parish priest, and I will be there to meet you.
